Conflicting messages from MTV
Drudge

First I read this on Drudge:
MTV Statement on Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Incident Sunday February 1, 11:03 pm ET
HOUSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance. MTV regrets this incident occurred and we apologize to anyone who was offended by it.
Then I went on MTV's website and I found this: Who's Kidding whom here?
Janet Jackson Got Nasty at the MTV-Produced Super Bowl Halftime Show Jaws across the country hit the carpet at exactly the same time. You know what we're talking about...Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a kinky finale that rocked the Super Bowl to its core. P. Diddy, Kid Rock, & Nelly rounded out the halftime show in the midst of the greatest game on earth. MTV was Super Bowl central, so armchair quarterbacks, fair weather fanatics and fans of Janet Jackson and her pasties were definitely in the right place. So strap on those pads, keep your head down and get the full recap of The AOL Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show produced by MTV.

Actually, the more I think about it, the angrier I get. The more I learn how they probably lied to everyone I get mad. When I think that young boys watched a man tear part of a women's shirt off to the deafening sound of people cheering, I GET REALLY MAD and when I think that Janet Jackson would go along with that image, I get really sad. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Fine CBS and MTV ! Whats the National debt? Add 2 million to it and get the surplus rolling. Wonder if there is a class action suit that can get going here my young children and I were watching, had to be quick on the remote but was not quick enough, something along the line of corrupting the morals of a minor.

It occurs to me that perhaps this was MTV's way of counter-programming the highly-advertised PPV "Lingerie Bowl?" Who knew that the free broadcast show would show more than the PPV?

IMHO, CBS and the NFL are just as culpable. They'll get their millions whether it was Janet Jackson or Rosie O'Donnel.

Ugh.. Is Juan Williams going to rip open Mara Liason's blouse one night during the panel segment on Special Report? Or worse yet -- imagine if CNN imitates it and gets Aaron Brown to rip off Candy Crowley's top? Yeesh!

It's almost like CNN's Paula Zahn "ZZZZiiiiippp!" ad.

No, my point is that if what Jackson did makes us the Great Satan, then Europe would be hated far more because we are prudes compared to them.

CBS as a broadcaster is activly courting controversy under the impression it yields ratings.
If we want to have an impact, write to the people who paid a million plus for thirty seconds of ad time. Tell the sponsors they had better get their expenive new ads off CBS.
Even when CBS had "thereagans" they were courting the expected controversy. They did not expect the firestorm over the prepublicity. Obviously CBS learned their lesson, they kept this under wraps and are now enjoying their pre-planned controversy.

MTV has become the "toilet" of society anyway. This, coupled with a Jackson ( a bunch of sexual deviates) , should suprise no one.

what does the "m" stand for any more. It most certainly is not music videos.

Listen people...If you didn't want to see a naked breast, you shouldn't be watching shows like that.
Oh wait, never mind, you all were talking about the Super Bowl!
To: Hildy
I had a VCR with the SB going while watching another TV flipping back and forth from the game to another program. During halftime, I didn't watch the show -- the Aerosmith/Britney Spears/Nelly debacle a couple of Bowls back cured me of them. But after I heard about Janet's indecent exposure, I checked the tape of the game.
My verdict: there ain't NO way this wasn't prepared or intentional. The only reason for her to have a breakaway cup on that outfit and a pastie/tassle on her breast is if she was guarding her nipple from being exposed. The only reason for Justin Timberlake to reach across her body for her right breast would be to rip the cup away. Anyone who says otherwise is a lying sack.
I see the supposed theme of the show was "Choose to get involved." Well, MTV, you asked for it.
BTW -- up until I learned about this disgusting incident, I thought the low point of the broadcast were the turn for the tawdry of the Bud Light commercials, two of which featured a farting horse and a talking chimpanzee that propositions his owner's girlfriend.
