Student fights for the right to be 'right' Conservative teen shakes up campus
San Francisco Cronicle ^ | January 31, 2004 | Peter Fimrite

Tim Bueler, like many cocksure 17-year-olds, is strident in expressing his political beliefs.

And to him, the Republican Party leans too far to the left.

That was the spark that launched his Conservative Club at Rancho Cotate High School in the Sonoma County town of Rohnert Park and ignited two months of rhetorical ugliness on campus. It also put him on the conservative talk show circuit, including an appearance Thursday on Fox television's "The O'Reilly Factor."

He was on O'Reilly last week. O'Reilly coached him to turn down the inflammatory rhetoric or his message would be lost in the polarization that would ensue.

It's not only conservatives who are attacking the publik screwl system. Check out this parody courtesy of "Mad TV"

http://www.madtv.com/html/classics/theatre_int_8.html

Let's face it, publik screwls have become a national laughing stock. It's time to relegate publik screwls to the scrap heap of history, along with other failed concepts like Communism and Stalinism. The fact of the matter is that anything provided by free enterprise becomes less expensive, more available and higher quality over time. Whereas anything provided by the government becomes more expensive, less available and lower quality over time. This applies to goods, services and anything else, be it bread, medical care or education. It is long past time to get the government out of the business of educating out kids.

"Liberals," it pronounced, "welcome every Muhammad, Jamul and Jose who wishes to leave his Third World state and come to America -- mostly illegally -- to rip off our health care system, balkanize our language and destroy our political system."

Not cool with me

Bueler? Bueler? Bueler? Anyone?

Well, he seems like a publicity seeking blowhard to me, and I don't share his views on immigration, but it used to be a free country, and he should be allowed to speak his mind without needing escorts.

The African National Congress leaders said far worse in my college days, and they walked around campus freely.

I like how the black killing the white ends the movie to show that hate isn't just whites, nor is it just minorities.

I'm denigrating him because he's a racist. I don't care if he's black brown or yellow, he's an idiot. It's punks like him along with the 'border patrol' groups and the Klan sympathizers that generate the belief that all conservatives are closet rednecks. He ought to grow up. When I was 16 I was playing football with my black teamates, working for an Asian store keeper and saving cash to go to college some day. I wasn't posting racist drivel on the walls of my school.

If that is what this comment by Savage conveys to you, yea I guess so:

"A good deal of the verbal pyrotechnics have come from Bueler's hero, ultra-conservative radio personality Michael Savage, as well as Internet pundits and the right-leaning Washington Times.

They paint Bueler as a patriotic hero who stood up to howling liberal hypocrites trying to stifle his voice and trod upon the traditional American values he was bravely trying to uphold.

"Remember the movie 'Rebel Without a Cause'?" asked Savage, the radio host whose book, "Savage Nation," Bueler borrowed liberally from in outlining his club's philosophy. "This kid represents rebels with a cause. He represents the new counterculture."

Did you read the article?

Savage is quite intelligent but sometimes he is all over the place.

What is it that they say, all publicity is good publicity, just spell the name right. This guy thinks somewhat like Savage, unlike some of the posters to this thread.

Gee, alternatively we could try to convert some of these 'non-white' immigrants to support fundamental American ideas like love of liberty, industry and tolerance (not that many of the posters here would seem to possess much of this last trait). Rather than 'keep them out' by closing the border (a.k.a economic suicide) why not win a few to this side of the political spectrum by not being racists!? Your fear of immigrants becoming democrats is self-fulfilling if they say 'welcome' and we say 'get lost you piece of 3rd world detritus'.

Oh OK.

Personally I believe if someone goes to another country they should not expect that country to assume their culture. I think as was shown earlier in the century it works better if immigrants assimilate into OUR culture.

That is what my Grandparents did, and it worked fine.

I agree with that. But the good welfare state is why many come here. Unfortunately immigration cannot be separated from our overburdened welfare state.

Hospitals are closing because of the free health care we must give to people that are not citizens.

Many don't pay into the system but live off of it.

Bueler gets campus security.

He does now. The first few times he was threatened the school just blew him off. Then they told him why not take a few days off?

He refused to do that. But of course the school couldn't ask the people doing the threatening to stay home for a few days; that would be not politically correct and the school would get embroiled in a "racist" charge.

Again as you can see from his picture he is not a "protected" class. White Male Christian. A dangerous title in this day and age. About the only group that can be disparaged now and is not frowned upon. They are the bad guys.

We should be judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin.

Somebody famous said that...

He is a nice kid, a bit outspoken. I have talked to both him and his Father. Next Saturday the Eagle Forum is meeting a few miles from here, and Phillis Schlafly has invited Tim to speak.

Also Phyllis offered to meet with any teacher from the school the nite before and debate him. Tim said if they won't debate her, he will debate them.

I doubt a teacher will take her up on it, but I will cover it if it happens.

Limited government is the tradition of the earlier european immigrants and their descendants. The average 3rd-worlder wants no part of conservatism. By bringing them here you are only increasing the demand for welfare.

No amount of butt-kissing is going to make them vote republican, when the democrats always offer more of our money.

More on the campus security from the Mercury News on Jan 9th:

Posted on Fri, Jan. 09, 2004 story:PUB_DESC
News in brief from California's North Coast
Associated Press

A student club at Rohnert Park's Rancho Cotate High School has become a lightning rod for conservatives around the nation.

The school's Conservative Club has received an avalanche of e-mails from throughout the country and attracted offers of support for its 17-year-old leader, club president Tim Bueler. The high school junior established the club at the school as a forum to counter what he said was teaching from a liberal point of view by the school's faculty - a view the teachers strongly dispute.

But besides the forum he wanted to create, Bueler also garnered national attention after alleging he was physically threatened by students for his views last month while teachers twice failed to come to his aid.

The school in the past week has received thousands of e-mail messages from conservatives around the country who learned of Bueler from newspapers, talk radio and Web sites, a school district official said. Even conservative leader Phyllis Schlafly has stepped into the controversy, offering to debate one of the Rancho Cotate teachers next month on the topic of liberal bias in the classroom.

The school district's superintendent, meanwhile, has hired an independent investigator to look into Bueler's allegations of student threats and teacher inaction.

I don't know if parents are paying much attention to what's going on with their kids, but I have seen and heard alot of growing discontent and outright hatred in a good number of caucasion kids. I tell my son to stay well clear of it.

He was telling me that six fights broke out in one day last week. Jr. High is probably the most difficult time kids have in school. I'm hoping it all calms down by high school.

That's just nonsense. Look at the Cubans who are strident anticommunist, entrepreneurial and freedom loving. Look at the Koreans who work tirelessly in the few sectors of our economy where they can find a foothold. Many third world immigrants come to the USA seeking the same thing our ancestors did--opportunity. Many leave behind the same thing our ancestors did oppressive, socially ossified societies where because of religion, accent, surname, or caste they were excluded from economic and political advancement. Only a small percentage of legal immigrants end up on welfare the VAST majority are law abiding and productive members of our community.
Bueler's posting lambasted both legal and illegal immigrants (by including the mostly). He expressed antipathy to all of the ethnic groups he alluded to through his blatantly stereotypical reference. His position is indefensible unless you think America is for white people only.

Two days later, an anonymous teacher drafted a response proposing a "Liberal Hot Line," which parodied the tone of Bueler's missive. "Let's take a stand against the neo-conservative wing-nuts who call themselves Americans," the flyer declared.

This kid deserves support if for no other reason than he goes to a school run by teachers stupid enough to get into pissing contests with teenagers.

1.Numbers matter.
The more immigrants, the more likely they will form large unassimilatable enclaves.
2. Culture matters. The farthera group is from the American norms, the longer it takes for them to assimilate.
