Student fights for the right to be 'right' Conservative teen shakes up campus

Tim Bueler, like many cocksure 17-year-olds, is strident in expressing his political beliefs.

And to him, the Republican Party leans too far to the left.

That was the spark that launched his Conservative Club at Rancho Cotate High School in the Sonoma County town of Rohnert Park and ignited two months of rhetorical ugliness on campus. It also put him on the conservative talk show circuit, including an appearance Thursday on Fox television's "The O'Reilly Factor."

Bueler gets campus security.

He does now. The first few times he was threatened the school just blew him off. Then they told him why not take a few days off?

He refused to do that. But of course the school couldn't ask the people doing the threatening to stay home for a few days; that would be not politically correct and the school would get embroiled in a "racist" charge.

Again as you can see from his picture he is not a "protected" class. White Male Christian. A dangerous title in this day and age. About the only group that can be disparaged now and is not frowned upon. They are the bad guys.

We should be judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin.

Somebody famous said that...

He is a nice kid, a bit outspoken. I have talked to both him and his Father. Next Saturday the Eagle Forum is meeting a few miles from here, and Phillis Schlafly has invited Tim to speak.

Also Phyllis offered to meet with any teacher from the school the nite before and debate him. Tim said if they won't debate her, he will debate them.

I doubt a teacher will take her up on it, but I will cover it if it happens.

Limited government is the tradition of the earlier european immigrants and their descendants. The average 3rd-worlder wants no part of conservatism. By bringing them here you are only increasing the demand for welfare.

No amount of butt-kissing is going to make them vote republican, when the democrats always offer more of our money.

More on the campus security from the Mercury News on Jan 9th:

News in brief from California's North Coast
Associated Press

A student club at Rohnert Park's Rancho Cotate High School has become a lightning rod for conservatives around the nation.

The school's Conservative Club has received an avalanche of e-mails from throughout the country and attracted offers of support for its 17-year-old leader, club president Tim Bueler. The high school junior established the club at the school as a forum to counter what he said was teaching from a liberal point of view by the school's faculty - a view the teachers strongly dispute.

But besides the forum he wanted to create, Bueler also garnered national attention after alleging he was physically threatened by students for his views last month while teachers twice failed to come to his aid.

The school in the past week has received thousands of e-mail messages from conservatives around the country who learned of Bueler from newspapers, talk radio and Web sites, a school district official said. Even conservative leader Phyllis Schlafly has stepped into the controversy, offering to debate one of the Rancho Cotate teachers next month on the topic of liberal bias in the classroom.

The school district's superintendent, meanwhile, has hired an independent investigator to look into Bueler's allegations of student threats and teacher inaction.

I don't know if parents are paying much attention to what's going on with their kids, but I have seen and heard alot of growing discontent and outright hatred in a good number of caucasion kids. I tell my son to stay well clear of it.

He was telling me that six fights broke out in one day last week. Jr. High is probably the most difficult time kids have in school. I'm hoping it all calms down by high school.

That's just nonsense. Look at the Cubans who are strident anticommunist, entrepreneurial and freedom loving. Look at the Koreans who work tirelessly in the few sectors of our economy where they can find a foothold. Many third world immigrants come to the USA seeking the same thing our ancestors did--opportunity. Many leave behind the same thing our ancestors did oppressive, socially ossified societies where because of religion, accent, surname, or caste they were excluded from economic and political advancement. Only a small percentage of legal immigrants end up on welfare the VAST majority are law abiding and productive members of our community.
Bueler's posting lambasted both legal and illegal immigrants (by including the mostly). He expressed antipathy to all of the ethnic groups he alluded to through his blatantly stereotypical reference. His position is indefensible unless you think America is for white people only.

Two days later, an anonymous teacher drafted a response proposing a "Liberal Hot Line," which parodied the tone of Bueler's missive. "Let's take a stand against the neo-conservative wing-nuts who call themselves Americans," the flyer declared.

This kid deserves support if for no other reason than he goes to a school run by teachers stupid enough to get into pissing contests with teenagers.

Seems like he is against immigration.

He's a kid. How much subtlety and discretion do you expect out of him?

Bueler's posting lambasted both legal and illegal immigrants (by including the mostly).

Care to cite some statistics to dispute his "mostly" qualifier?

You're just looking for an occasion to throw an unrefined conservative under the bus to draw attention to your "tolerance."

1.Numbers matter.
The more immigrants, the more likely they will form large unassimilatable enclaves.
2. Culture matters. The farthera group is from the American norms, the longer it takes for them to assimilate.

It is amazing what heppens whena bunch of boys figure out that they will be blamed for all the ills of society and be legally discriminated against under the guise of anti-discrimination. it is amazing what happens when a generation sees their inheritance given to unassimilated foreigners.
Hatred is not a logical or beneficial response, but understandable.

I saw this kid on O Reilley and he scares me.

I don't know about him starting a compound in Idaho, but I did see him on O'Reilley and if the schools want to be fair and balanced then they need to allow his views as well...but I'm not all that excited about jumping into the same bed as him. He's done the verbal equivalent of lighting a Molotov and tossed it into a theater...of course there will be screams.

I don't know that they are mature enough to have all that figgured out. They are tired of being bullied, hit, etc, and not allowed to strike back without themselves facing detention and their parents facing a $250.00 fine.

They don't like the double standard and the cowards that have to have a gang back them up instead of going one on one like men. They are better than all that and they know it.

"Remember the movie 'Rebel Without a Cause'?" asked Savage, the radio host whose book, "Savage Nation," Bueler borrowed liberally from in outlining his club's philosophy. "This kid represents rebels with a cause. He represents the new counterculture."

Gee, just the other day Savage wanted to sue the kid. How times change once he gets a little attention.

Debate?

What's the point? We have a preview of the left's "intellectual" arguments from some of these posts. I've heard it for four decades. It never changes.

To wit, you are a racist, I bet you have Nazi tattoos, go back to your compound in Idaho, you should be tolerant of other's ideas as we tolerate others' ideas (except yours), you should be tolerant of others as we are tolerant of others (except you), we're good and you're not, we believe that America welcomes immigrants and you want to hurt them, you're mean, you have free speech but you must be careful how you express yourself, you are a bigot, you hate people who are different from you, we don't like your short haircut or your German-sounding name, we believe in tolerance but. . . .

It's time to relegate publik screwls to the scrap heap of history, along with other failed concepts like Communism and Stalinism.

Absolutely right, but it's not going to happen. The NEA and the political establishment have got us taxpayers by the shorthairs and will NEVER, EVER stop confiscating our money for the public screwls.

The only way I can see public screwls disappearing is if parents take their children out of them, en masse. And that would have to be a VERY big 'en masse.'

Wake up, parents. There are NO good public schools left, even the ones in the wealthy suburbs. I learned this the hard way. Get your kids out before they're corrupted beyond all hope.

"the school district chose to honor his free speech"

Of course it did. With the amount of publicity this kid is getting, how could the school district censor him and get away with it?
