Hillary Clinton visits Wolcott (NY) (confuses "successful business" with "tough times")
Fingerlakes Times, Geneva NY ^ | 2/3/04 | By DEBORAH J. MYERS

WOLCOTT — Weather got in the way of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Jan. 15 visit here, but the former first lady made it to Wolcott yesterday for the dedication of the addition at Electromark.

Alongside owner Blair Brewster and vice president and co-founder Harold Rickles, Clinton cut the ribbon on the 28,000-square-foot expansion that is expected to more than double the company’s 120-person workforce to about 300 within the next five years.

Clinton’s visit to Electromark wasn’t her first brush with screen printing. Rickles said that he read in her book, “Living History,” that Clinton’s father had opened a screen printing factory in Chicago when she was a little girl.

“When Hillary and her brothers were old enough, they all worked in the factory screen printing fabric for draperies,” he said, to which Clinton noted:

“Of the many people who read my book, only Harold noticed that on page 8. I really appreciated that. When times got tough and [my father] had more business than he ... could deal with, it was my mother and me and my brothers at the print plant.”

Personal ties helped influence Clinton’s decision to accept the invitation to come to the dedication ceremony.

Brewster('s) wife, Mary Kim Brewster...teaches at the New York City-based Ackerman Institute for the Family, a minor financial supporter of Clinton’s senatorial campaign as recorded by the Federal Election Commission.

The whole artice is barf-worthy, but I found this especially interesting:

When times got tough and [my father] had more business than he ... could deal with, it was my mother and me and my brothers at the print plant,” (Clinton said).

When did having too much business become a sign of "tough times" and not prosperity? Maybe this explains why the democrats keep denying that the economy recovery is here. They think having a lot of customers is "tough."

"They think having a lot of customers is "tough.""

This is because they are forced to work. Working is tough, y'know... /sarc

The Ackerman Institute is interesting to google up.

Must be some powerful reason for ThatWoman to be in that part of the state in the dead of winter.

I sure hope Kerry asks Hillary to be his runningmate - that will help propel the Republican voters out that might otherwise stay home!

There was a Gary Ackerman running for a Congressional seat from some part of NYS. His committee gave at least a grand to Hilliary's Senate campaign. Wonder if he's any relation?

My mother had a chicken farm, and I hope to tell you cleaning a chicken house out in August is no trip to the park.

The way I read it is, when times were tough and (he had no hired employees, but had to run the business himself), the family had to pitch in to help.

Poor baby....

Saw her on TV News covering the visit.

She looked unhappy. It must absolutely drive her nuts to have to visit rural NYS and actually speak to her constituents.

Lately she seems to be speaking across the country, can't imagine why... It's amazing she could find the time to visit the State she supposedly represents with such a busy campaign schedule- her own.

This is the first I have ever heard of her fathers printing business.

Surely she wouldn't reinvent herself in a pathetic effort to appear populist and win votes! (I'm only surprised she didn't invent a Jewish connection - friend, relative, kindly screenprinter - for the occasion).

She's doing her best, however, to bring home the pork. Dollars for votes, and all that.

Did the smartest woman person in the world structure the sentence like that?

I would be very surprised if there was much of a Jewish vote in Wolcott, New York. This is the rural part of upstate New York

Wolcott is a little hick town with cheap land. It was on our route to Canada when I was a kid (50 years ago). The Coffee Cup Restaurant was our first "bathroom and eating stop". The place was very clean and had the best eggs I've ever had. Hillary should look at Case-Hoyt, the printer in Rochester who might close their doors after a century of business.

This is a payback for the person mentioned in the article. Hillary could care less about people and jobs.

When times got tough, SHE worked in the business. Would that be illegal as she must have been a little kid? And what is her idea of working??....Dusting the furniture?? Did she pay taxes on the money she earned??

I'd guess she would stop in Geneva where her loyalists are. It's what you don't hear when Hippo is traveling.
