Is it time to boycott Heinz?
self | 2/3/04

A thought occurred to me this morning: every time someone purchases a bottle of Heinz ketchup or 57 sauce (or any other Heinz product), aren't they potentially donating to the Kerry campaign?

Is it time for a Freeper boycott of Heinz products?

Technically, she claims she is not donating to Kerry.

Yet.

I really would like to do that, but I don't think I could make it without Heinz ketchup :)

We switch over to kosher for Passover. After a few weeks you don't miss the Heinz.

You'd have to bring your own ketchup to an awful lot of restaurants.

Yeah, but according to the articles I found, Mrs. Kerry, Teresa Heinz, "remains a leading stockholder in the Heinz Corp."

More importantly, with Kerry's desire to see employees paid with higher wages, how come he and his wife hasn't lead the way in high wages at Heinz? Why haven't they set the example?

I think we can limit our boycott to direct purchases since those are the actions that directly profit Teresa Heinz.

"Is it time to boycott Heinz?"

No. This is how our country works. I see nothing to object to, so long as the campaign finance laws are observed.

I know it's fashionable to think of corporations as these big monster creatures, but there are people inside those things, and they have jobs and mortgages and kids to buy shoes for.

Leave the pickle factory people alone.

What are you gonna do to Mrs. Heinz? Make her cut down from three to two afternoon bathroom maids? There, you got a maid laid off too. Whoop-dee-do.

That would be like boycotting Walmart because Tom Daschle owns a bunch of their stock.

Unless Heinz as a corporation gets involved in Kerry's campaign, I do not think there is justifiable reason to boycott them.

And if buying ketchup throws a few cents Kerry's way, well, I really don't have a problem with that. Bush's taxcuts helped Kerry out too.

That's like asking why the Democrats seek a loophole to the minimum wage for campaign workers.

I don't think campaign laws allow him unlimited access to his own money. Did he accept federal matching funds? If he did then he is limited.

His career hadn't gone very strong since the 1970s anyway. A boycott could do wonders for him.

I reckon I am already boycotting Heinz. It ain't green chile burritos, or bottled water, or Butt Wipe, so I guess I am Kerry-free.
