Is it time to boycott Heinz?
self | 2/3/04

A thought occurred to me this morning: every time someone purchases a bottle of Heinz ketchup or 57 sauce (or any other Heinz product), aren't they potentially donating to the Kerry campaign?

Is it time for a Freeper boycott of Heinz products?

Our local Heinz plant is unionized so, undoubtedly, Ketchup-boy would point you to the union policies.

But if you use the ketchup at the restaurants they have to buy more to replace it. You are still contributing to the company that way.

I have been boycotting Heinz since the day I found out he was married to her and running for President. I buy a lot of ketchup and none of it Heinz since then. In fact, Albertson's ketchup is always running out here in Norman while the Heinz just sits there.

No Heinz products coming into this house!

Having worked in a pickle factory after high school, allow me to thank you on their behalf. (You did know that you could smell people who work in a pickle factory almost a half-block away, didn't you?)

Well, it is retarded.

Kerry's wife is not the director of the Heinz's factory (which employs many of my friends from Grad school) she is merely a beneficiary of her stock holdings, gifted to her by her tragically killed late husband.

How is not buying Heinz pickles and ketchup going to help anyone?

I switched the brand I buy away from Heinz to other brands and giving them my business. Like you said they have employees too.

...Regardless, I don't see this as boycott-worthy. As some FReepers have mentioned already, there could be average-joes' jobs on the line here. Good honest folk who think Kerry was a horror movie with that actress in it, now what was her name.

I've made a vow to boycott exhaling. I'm not going to provide any more carbon dioxide because a plant might take it in and later provide nourishment to a democrat, a queer, or a godless atheist.

Funny thing is, I'm turning as blue as the liberal parts of the country. Could it be? Are they already boycotting exhaling?

Those dirty communist bastards. Denying CO2 and starving me and mine to death. See why I hate them?

Does the union insist on limiting the workers wages when Kerry is so willing to make everybody else pay higher wages.

He should lead by example and have been doing so for 15 years already!

Funny...I had to buy ketchup today, and specifically bought the Hunts instead of the Heinz, just because of the Kerry connection! LOL to see this thread posted!

If bush offers a better vision for America it will be a landslide.

Why are so many here so concerned?

Bring 'em on................

the Heinz's factory (which employs many of my friends from Grad school)

So is it fair to say that your view is colored by personal interest?

That's a tactic they like to throw around. What does Heinz
"the company" have to do with anything. If you like their product, buy it.

You did know that you could smell people who work in a pickle factory almost a half-block away, didn't you?

When I read that, I had this vision of one of those ridiculous TV ads. The guy from the pickle factory is walking home, right? He twitches his nose, sniffs a couple times, and looks around. There! On the hill! A woman from the salami factory! And she smells him! Cue the orchestra, the singing birds... next thing, we see the two of them gamboling through -- I know just the thing! Mustard plants!

We could get Barry Manilow to write the music.

Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow-white turtle doves...

What it all reminds me of is the guy who came home from work and dejectedly told his wife he had been fired for sticking his wang in a pickle slicer.

"What happened to the pickle slicer?"
"They fired her, too."

That is interesting. It is still the best ketchup I have ever eaten, at least for my taste buds.

Get a friggin' clue. Teresa's isn't a real Heinz. She was married to John Heinz, a Republican U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. He died in a plane "accident" back in 1991, and she was shacking up with Kerry not too long thereafter.

For a long time I was wondering why on earth we stored so many carrots for Heinz.

One day I had the situation of visiting the plant where they actually make Ketchup. I wanted to see where our stored products went.

Here is the clinker. "Almost 50% of Heinz Catsup is CARROTS". Oh, it doesn't say it on the bottle in the ingredients. To this day, it is still one of the best kept secrets in the industry.

I suppose the fact that Heinz makes baby food couldn't possibly account for the use of carrots?

If what you say is true, then Heinz has been violating federal labeling laws for ever. Doesn't come close to passing the smell test.

Well,I live in Pittsburgh, and boycotting Heinz for the stupid reason that the former Mrs. Heinz is married to Kerry is stupid....like has been said before, you only have the potential to hurt the worker bees at Heinz, and the Western PA community in general.

Peronally, I think that someone should start a thread listing the products and services we are "permitted" to use and purchase...it would be much shorter that the number of threads seeking to boycott everyone and their mother.
