I'm 65 years old, and I can remember so many times in my lifetime that the National Guard has been called into service -- everything from helping out victims of national disasters, such as earthquakes and floods and tornados to patrolling the streets of cities to keep order during times of political dissent.
I well remember the National Guard coming to the rescue in Berkeley in the 1960s when I lived there. This was not 'easy' duty for those brave young men. They were spat upon and stoned by Kerry cohorts.
I am grateful for National Guard service. It is not convenient for guardsmen and women to be called away from their regular jobs and sent who-knows-where at a moment's notice. As an employer I've released employees to go and welcomed them back afterward.
Certainly in the modern era, the National Guard has been called on more than ever. Clinton and his sidekick Kerry depleted our armed forces during the 1990s and squadered the peace dividend left them by George Bush, the father. The Clinton Administration left our regular armed services weakened and the nation vulnerable to the 9/11 attacks. The National Guard has helped us out of a pickle and contributed to the spectacular victories we enjoyed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Kerry, Kennedy, & Klinton should crawl back under their rocks and live with the spiders like their buddy Saddam.
By George, George IS a pilot. He was termed "one of the best ever to go throught the program" according to his superior officer.
BTW, I heard George Bush himself say that the reason he didn't return to flying aircraft in is last months before completing his NG service is that during his leave of absence they had changed planes and he wasn't trained on the new plane yet.
The steam just pours out of my ears everytime I her the Dems on these stupid allegations. I wonder why the Dems are trying to distract us with this stupidity? What are they hiding?
Ask a Liberal Dumbocrat the meaning of Article 2 of the US Constitution: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Dims will invariably respond, Arming a Militia means the National Guard, and not that private US citizens can own and carry firearms.
So then, on one hand Dumbocrats consider the National Guard (Militia) a lesser part of the military because GWB was a member. OTOH, the Dims categorically believe the Guard is specifically mentioned in the Constitution as the protector of our freedoms.
Talk about liberal hypocrisy.
The concept of an armed National Guard ever at the ready was considered an integral part of our freedoms even before we had a country or military.
It means he's been to San Diego.
Sarge is currently self-administering anger management, in the form of gnawing off the corner of his console while on duty, as a result of reading this thread.
Sarge will return to duty, as soon as the Demoral kicks in, and the work order for the console is prepared.
Thank You.
Amen...I agree completely. My father has served in the Guard for the past 34 yearsand is currently serving in Iraq. The American people definitely need to wake up. If Kerry is elected President, we are all in a world of trouble. He preaches "Bring our soldiers home"...great, but I am proud of what my dad is doing for me and my country. I hate he is gone and worry everyday, but I know that he is doing what he loves to do, Love of God and Country. Kerry is a jackass and does not deserve the freedom that the men and women of this Country's National Guard so valiently defend. Maybe he should be appointed to the security council in Iraq. Since he prides himself on being such a "soldier", maybe he should stop hiding behind his wife's money and grow a set.
Whatever...do you mean to say that National Guardsmen are not "real" soldiers. I have a father serving in Iraq, so I would say that gives me a reason to disagree with you. John Kerry does not have the sense to run this country. Lucky for him he married money. He is a jackass that flip flops on every issue presented to him. He states his position to be in accordance with his audience. I've yet to hear him state anything of real value. The American "simple minded" people favor him because he tells them what they want to hear. I do not like the fact that my father is in Iraq, but I know he is doing the right thing and of that I am bursting with pride. My father joined the guard 34 years ago, which if memory serves was during the Vietnam War. My father is no coward and did not dodge the draft by joining the National Guard. I take great offense to your statement, that "that is why people joined the guard". That's saying that everyone that joined the guard during that time, only joined to avoid war...think again. I do see that you said you were not so lucky...for that I am sorry and I also extend gratitude for the sacrifices that you made. But as a vetern of war, I would think that you'd not be so cinical and pretty much call the rest cowards. Everyone does not join the military for the right reason...look at the number of Marine and Naval Aviators who are only in flight programs to gain flight hours and go commercial. I think that our problem today is not dealing with our pasts (everyone seems to want to sweep that under the rug), but that we should take more pride in our country and celebrate how lucky we are because of brave men and women that are willing to fight for freedom.
Are you this prejudiced in all your thinking?? My father joined the guard 34 years ago, which if I am correct was during Vietnam. My father is still in the National Guard and is currently serving in Iraq. In defense of all National Guardsmen, I think that anyone speaking ill of their service should be completely ashamed. They have been the largest number of soldiers serving in this conflict. As I said my father joined many yrs ago (along with numerous other members of his battalion). Stands to reason if you join to avoid war, you get out when your term is complete...you don't re-up. There are plenty of soldiers that are at and beyond retirement from the National Guard. Don't think they all stayed in for the money ha/ha...Don't degrade a whole group for the actions of a few.
Thank you...I don't know how many replies have sent tonight in response to best I can see, pure ignorance. People take for granted what our men and women serving in National Guard and Reserves do for our country. My father is currently serving in Iraq, he has been in the National Guard for 34 years...and will probably be in til they kick him out. Anyway, just wanted to reply and extend my heart felt thanks for your support in what the National Guard has and is doing for the US.
I would never say such a thing. I have not been here for days. When am I supposed to have said this?
