The companys now gone, the flatirons left are out of my price range and the market is flooded with Asian mandolins.

What's your price range? There are still some excellent small companies in the US making wonderful mandos for not all THAT much...

Sad to say my price range isn't that much. Its going to have to be $500 or less. It seems most mandos sell for either $75 ( cheap imports) or $2000 ( Flatiron, Gibson,Martin). I'm hoping to find a simple A-style, US made mandolin, preferably used.Mid Missouri Mandolins is the front runner on my wish list right now. If any freepers know of a lonely, unloved instrument, I know a loving home. My brother plays banjo and my cousin has a harp......( insert heart tugging music...............)

Imo Gatton was the best Tele player ever. Have you ever seen his "Telemaster" instructional video? His opening jam is the most jaw-dropping bit of guitar work I've ever seen/heard. .....worth the price of the DVD by itself. He effortlessly combined blues, jazz, and country like no one else.

There was an amazing video on YouTube of Gatton, Albert Lee, and Vince Gill trading solos on Rodney Crowell's song "One Way Rider." (Unfortunately it's now gone). Guitar pickin' heaven.

I don’t think it matters where the DXM’s are made. They sound like crap here and south of the border.

Why shouldn’t the Martin employees give their jobs to Mexicans, we seeem to be giving the country to them?

Thanks for the heads up on the DG DVD. I will definitely fetch this DVD ASAP. I have this one saved as a favorite in my youtube account. Is this from the same instructional video?

I think I have seen the youtube video you are talking about. It is truly amazing.

Yep, that YouTube clip you linked to is from the “Telemaster” DVD. I find myself watching it more for enjoyment than for instruction, but it’s still worth the price of admission. He tends to rush through some pretty complicated stuff, but his teaching style is relaxed and friendly. .....it’s like you’re sitting in his living room.

Good news -- someone posted it again yesterday. (I just posted a response a couple minutes ago).

I'm a huge fan of Brian Moore Custom electric guitars - they are perfect for the guitar synth stuff I like to play.

Please elaborate, I've never heard of this...?

Cheers!

The Wikipedia entry on guitar synthesis is a good overview. Essentially, any sound a keyboard player can create, I can create using a guitar as a controller.

But my list of "guitars owned" has changed completely since that old 2004 post! ;)
