[history]
A Queens sock vendor pleaded guilty yesterday to molesting and impregnating his girlfriend's 8-year-old daughter and faces 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Chancellor Drayton, 44, of 4-21 27th Ave. in Astoria, was charged with first-degree rape, police said, after the girl's grandmother found a "Dear Dad" love letter in which the child wrote that she enjoyed having sex with him and added, "I want to marry you." The girl's mother, a Fort Greene resident, contacted police, and tests showed that her daughter was 15 weeks pregnant.
At the mother's request, an abortion was performed and police arrested Drayton two weeks later. Prosecutors contended that he had sex with the girl at least four times between Dec. 2001 and Oct. 30, 2002 - usually while the mother, a student at Baruch College, was running errands.

20 years for child rape but a possible 25 years for robbery. Sometimes justice just makes you wonder.

I don't mean to be naive, but don't you have to have a menustration period before you can get pregnant and isn't it unheard of for an 8 yr. old to have her period. I don't mean to be stupid, but as a man I didn't think that was possible that young.

You know if we had the death penalty for these freaks that want to have sex with children...then I wager to say we wouldn't be looking for little Carlie right now....how is it we can't protect the children of this country?

I know someone who was 8 when she started her period- and girls can and do ovulate prior to the onset of menstration.

You can get pregnant before your first period, it's just a matter of timing. And the onset of menstruation is happening earlier and earlier. Nobody really knows why.

So this POS is 44, his g/f is a college student, and he impregnates the 8 year old. A Springer show in the making.

Yep, and even 30 years ago, I knew of 2 girls who began menstruating by age 10, so today, I am sure 8 year old fertile girls isn't unheard of.

don't you have to have a menustration period before you can get pregnant and isn't it unheard of for an 8 yr. old to have her period. I only learned of it much later, but there was a girl in my elementary school class who had begun menstruating at the age of 2. All I knew was that by third grade she was very well developed. So yes, it's possible.
I don't mean to be stupid, but as a man I didn't think that was possible that young.
According to this site (take it with a grain of salt), the youngest authenticated mother was 5 years, 8 months old.

GRanted, this POS probably thought he was pretty safe having unprotected sex with an eight-year-old. He was probably darned sure HE wasn't going to catch anything...

I had the same opinion at one time... until someone pointed out to me that if we did have the death penalty for these freaks, we wouldn't be looking for little Carlie at the moment, we'd be looking for little Carlie's body.

No one has yet to comment on the abortion. On first glance, I was sickened by it, but in this case, such a small, young girl, perhaps her health really would have been threatened?

He is going to have to be in a very secure location in prison to do his time... I believe the expression is "Short Eyes" but normally prisoners tend to exact vengeance against such persons....
Funniest thing I ever heard of is "a respectable crime"... Armed Robbery is considered by "guests" of the criminal justice system as respectable... Pedophilia, rape or elderly or young is considered to be a death sentence waiting to happen... Dead man walking....

Researchers at Ohio State University have found evidence that leptin, a hormone produced by fat cells, may trigger the onset of menstruation. As the nutrition available to children increases both in quantity and fat content the age of the start of menstruation has decreased. I t is highly possible that this child could have become pregnant, but not likely that she could have carried it to term.

He will have to be isolated for his protection.... I have heard of stories where these guys are locked up for 23 hours a day and they tend to lose their minds...
If released into general population, they tend to commit suicide (sometimes with unrequested assistance).... Either way, this person will not serve their complete sentence...

It "seems lacking" because the DA knows damn well that he should be put to death for this monstrous act Unfortunately, only one person has paid for this man's crime with his or her life.
The utterly innocent unborn child.

I'm torn on the abortion issue in this case- on the one hand, the baby she was carrying was a life like any other life, on the other hand, I have 8 year old relatives and I can't imagine them giving birth without imperiling their life or ability to have children as adults. Also, this monster did incalculable damage to this girl's mind to the point that she was writing love letters to him- having a baby she would have to give up or raise might cause even more damage. Finally, this monster should not be able to leave a genetic legacy- imagine knowing that you were conceived in such a manner?
Of course, all life is precious and should have a chance to be born. The abortion is just as much a tragedy as the rape, but I can't frankly hate the mom for making the decision- I only hope for the sake of this girl she will have counseling on both the rape and abortion so that she will heal.

Don't sweat it. I'm told by a reliable source that Child Molesters don't last long in prison. . . this is one situation where death by mass homosexual rape seems not only appropriate, but essential. . . .

That's exactly the problem. Death doesn't work in rape unless you want to further endanger the victim.

That's the reason why this may be on of the the only cases I've ever seen where I would approve of an abortion. This child is only a baby herself and could not handle a pregnancy.

As you stated, this is one of those crimes where the sentence is most appropriate...

That's true...
I've heard some explanations ranging from better nutrition/health care in the modern world, to the use of hormones in meat and poultry.

begun menstruating at the age of 2most likely it was an endocrine disorder such as CPP-Central Precocious Puberty, or another hormonal issue vs "she just started early".
An 8-yr-old beginning menstruation is still within the "normal" range....a 2-yo, no way.

That's exactly the problem. Death doesn't work in rape unless you want to further endanger the victim. This was one of the problems addressed by Scotland Yard during the 1850s. There were so many crimes with death penalty that perps found that "No Witness Left Behind" was the best policy. To quote Dr Murchinson, "The penalty for one murder is the same as that for two."
