Didn't the state have this authority to begin with? I don't recall the Constitution saying the federal government has the authority to schedule state primary races.

"Just like the new maps, all election law provisions must be cleared by the federal agency or federal courts to make sure that they comply with the Voting Rights Act."

If this keeps up we'll be doing the General election next Spring -- that's Spring 2005.

Doesn't this make it likely that we'll hold the primary after the party conventions? Not that it matters if we're Republicans, but if I were a Democrat, I'd be pretty annoyed at being taken off the map as far as the Presidential nomination goes.

If the primaries are delayed, then Dan Blue is most likely not going to challenge Erskine Bowles.
