Isn't it safer just to excerpt everything then?

Are there any sources who have specifically said they don't mind us posting full text of articles?

Yikes! Wouldn't it be easier to program FR's software so it won't accept articles from all those sources? Then, the poster would know to check that list. If not, infrequent posters like me will just say "To hell with it" and not post anything . . . and that's not what we want, is it?

Doesn't the softwar take care of this pretty much if people include proper links?

I think it will be very useful... well, for me anyway.

You might even want to modify the top of this post to notify folks that "the list" will be readily available on the Admin Moderator profile page... just a suggestion... because we all remember Admin Moderator, and might not remember post 1073425 :o)

We normal lurker/posters might not catch most of them, but the better and easier we can educate, the less trouble down the road.

It's great having a concise and definitive location to send folks to for "the list."

Thanks!

My conclusion is that the only safe course is to excerpt everything except that which is obviously in the public domain.

And your posts are a pain!!!!!!!!

Practically useless for any research!

Some serious reading on the current hot topic of "Where are the WMD's?":

I need to add the Master list on Kerry:

Ernest, I just noticed your reply here & elsewhere calling me over here.

While we, of course, must observe the terms of the settlement, whenever possible I encourage people to post the whole article simply because they routinely vanish from other sites.

Absolutely yes, although people will complain about it. Too bad, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have some folks gripe than have FR get sued again.

I find it difficult to remember all of these, so I default to the excerpt. I know that makes some Freepers nuts, but better safe than sorry.

Think that those of us who post threads a lot should make sure we keep a copy of the entire article in our own records so if someone has a need to see the complete article they can Freep Mail us. That way when it disappears from the WP site, we will still have the article if needed. Pain to do but I would be more than willing to keep a copy of the entire article for the future since we cannot post the complete article.

All we have to do is burn a CD with the original and the FR link while excerpting it here on FR. We can put a note to contact us for the full article if it is needed.

It's important to post whole articles here whenever possible. As numerous replies have said, one reason is to preserve them for the record. Old stories have a way of vanishing, and the liberal media is especially good at giving the deep six to any story they find inconvenient.

That makes FreeRepublic a prime source for research.

A second reason is that stories that may look OK on their home ground are immediately exposed for what they are in the context of FreeRepublic. We have the means here of picking them apart and highlighting contradictions, lies, and omissions.

Ironically, media which allow their contents to be posted here almost certainly profit from it. Freepers are made aware of their web sites, visit them, and presumably see their ads. I was unaware of the existence of The Independent until I saw it referenced here, and that's true of many other sources.

What that tells me is that the LA Times and the Washington Post are more concerned about political embarrassment than protecting their bottom lines--which is not really a surprise.

I'm limited to 28k dial-up. It would take 4 times longer to read an article if I had to follow a link... so yes, I do complain:-)

Here's a recommendation. For the columnists (like George Will and Charles K) whose work is on the list but is also carried on Townhall.com, when you post them ALWAYS excerpt from and link to Townhall.com so that a CONSERVATIVE website gets the hit rather than a bird-cage liner rag like the Washington ComPost.

You should add the names of syndicated columnists like George Will who work for WP, but are published elsewhere. Most people wouldnt think to excerpt a Will column from the SacBee.

Does anyone else find it a bit funny that these organizations are coming after US, while almost every other board (especially the leftist's) gets a free pass?

I'm sorry, but my sense of humor is not stimulated.

It occurs to me that selectively suing someone in that fashion - given that the selectivity can be documented - may be actionable. One would have to conslut an attorney... but certainly, to see the leftist media scum get impaled on their own stupidity in such a fashion would be nothing short of delectable.

Meanwhile, if anyone identifies postings on other websites which would fall under the restrictions imposed on this one, I'm sure it's our civic duty to warn them of their vulnerability to the predations of the media scum who sued FR... and inform the aforementioned media scum of the "Appropriation" of their materials... and watch to see if the postings remain... and keep records of all such transactions...

I think there's an effort underway somewhere to archive the entire Internet (yes, that's right - every version of every web page) - and I don't remember the details, except that it involved some of the people who were busily restoring Usenet postings dating back to its inception in the mid-80's.

Eventually, if something like that occurs, any archive should become available (although possibly not for free), even if the originating source no longer makes it available.

I believe this is CENSORSHIP of the worst kind or better still, the Liberal kind. Liberals are running scared. THIS is about the ELECTION. How these people can put news out into the public domain and then say it can't be used is beyond me. I truly hope that ALL the US Freepers cancel their publication that have ANY connection at all to this. If this applied to peoples trash, the police would never solve many cases.!!
