WILLIAMSBURG - State Sen. John H. Chichester told a receptive audience yesterday that Virginia must raise taxes as an investment in making the state's future "worthy of its past."
Chichester, a Stafford County Republican and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, received a standing ovation at the College of William and Mary after defending his budget proposal, which calls for tax increases of about $2.6 billion over two years.

the state's future "worthy of its past."Chichester invoked the names of some of the state's Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Mason, all of whom he credited as "visionaries who could see the power of investment."
Give the government more of your money, the Founding Fathers would want you to.
Outside the Phi Beta Kappa Hall, where the ceremony took place, members of the William and Mary College Republicans, apparently aligned with the no-new-tax segment of the state GOP, handed out flyers
Impetulant young upstarts, not worthy of their heritage.
"We're not worthy"

I just love how RINO's & Dems are now calling tax raises, 'investments'.
We must 'invest' in our children's educations. We must 'invest' in our infrastructure. We must 'invest' in blah, blah, blah.

It seems like it's so easy to "sell" tax increases to the gullible public these days. Thank goodness our forefathers were willing to revolt against high and unfair taxes.

"...members of the William and Mary College Republicans, apparently aligned with the no-new-tax segment of the state GOP, handed out flyers saying Chichester cheated because he had said publicly as recently as last spring that he would not favor any tax increases."I love this part of the article - "Cheatin' Chichester" indeed!!

I can tell you that some of the comments we got from people were worse than "impetulant young upstarts". One guy, identifying himself as Chichester's brother, took a flyer, looked at it, turned around and told a CR officer to shove them up his @$$. That was just one of many.

Here is a link to an image (.jpg) of the flyer passed out by the College of William and Mary Republicans, criticizing Senator Chichester's tax plan just before he spoke at the Charter Day exercises.

To remedy this, point your mouse cursor to the lower right-hand portion of the image, and click on the button that appears.

Wasn't Jefferson the one who said a little revolution every 50 years or so was a good thing? (Honestly I am not sure.)

The sad thing is that this clown shouldn't even be around anymore. Mike Rothfeld, a hardcore conservative, had the guts to run against Chichester in last year's primary. Republican voters in Stafford County allowed Chichester to stay around, and now he knows he can vote as liberal as he wants to, since the GOP voters there won't do anything to him. There is plenty of blame to be placed on his GOP constituents.

"Great job on that flyer!!" I agree...does Chichester's district include W&M?! If so, that sorta outrage has gotta sting. If not, is there a school in Chichester's district that could create a similar flyer?!

But Stafford's mighty close to NOVA and them NOVA Pubbies ain't worth dirt!!
