Gays' great game plan leads to political correctness gone amok.

Gays' great game plan leads to political correctness gone amok By Joe Fitzgerald Recent Columns by Joe Fitzgerald Monday, February 9, 2004

As homosexual activists reveled in the victory that was theirs last week, the sanctioning of their aberrance by the state's highest court, even the most militant among them must have marveled over the ease of their triumph.

It began with a plea for tolerance, remember?

All they asked for was acceptance, which is different from approval, and who but a hatemonger could be against that?

So how did we get from that point to where we are now, where we've been ordered by judges, not answerable to us, to not only accept homosexual partnerships but also bestow upon them every right of marriage, an institution ordained and defined from the beginning of time as the union of a man and a woman?

How is it that, by the imperial power and political whim of four ideological renegades in robes, we are told we must forfeit standards handed down through the ages just to accommodate trendy mores?

``Much of America has lost its moorings,'' Sen. Robert Byrd, the West Virginia Democrat, noted back in 1996 when the U.S. Senate, by a vote of 85-14, reaffirmed marriage meant uniting one man and one woman. ``We've lost our way. What took thousands of years to build is being dismantled in a generation with a speed that is awesome.''

That same year, the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth sponsored a State House exhibit called ``The Shared Heart,'' which, according to its organizers, offered ``affirming images of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people.''

Those who protested that flagrant proselytism were maligned as ``homophobes,'' a word invented to stifle opposition by intimidating dissenters. It was, and remains, an effective tool.

Indeed, a few months earlier in New York, a nationally prominent gay activist named Kevin Jennings gave a speech, ``Winning the Cultural War,'' in which he boasted of inroads being made here in Massachusetts.

``Effective framing of the issue was the key to the success of the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth,'' he said. ``We explained how homophobia represents a threat to students' safety by creating a climate where suicide is common.

``We threw our opponents onto the defensive and left them back-pedaling from day one. In Massachusetts, no one could speak against our frame: `Why, yes, I do think students should kill themselves.' This allowed us to set the terms for the debate.''

Give him credit for a great game plan because people repulsed by what's happening now are still terrified of appearing hateful, which is what brought us to this moment where normalcy sits in the back seat while perversity sits at the wheel.

And it is not hateful to say that.

Take it from the writer, there is no hatred here.

Nor is it hateful to urge those who feel the same way to contact legislators immediately, demanding corrective action.

That won't go over well in some circles, but bear in mind the crowd that once pleaded for tolerance has become the most intolerant of all, thumbing its nose at values that have defined us and daring us to offer objection.

Accept that challenge.

Call gay marriage what it is, an abomination, political correctness gone amok.

When you know in your heart what you're saying is right, it doesn't make it easier to speak out; it just makes it a whole lot harder to remain silent.

In Massachusetts this week, silence is just another word for surrender.

Don't. Judges notwithstanding, your feelings matter, too.

Yes... the heterophobes have moved from mere tolerance to demanding society accept their lifestyle as legally and morally equivalent to heterosexuality. With the help of the Mass Supremes they have won a victory they thought would never happen. The culture war has been joined.

The folks in Massachussetts that really care about this matter should be urging their legislators to impeach these judges for exceeding their authority.

As homosexual activists reveled in the victory that was theirs last week

I'm getting an unwanted image of homosexual revelry involving a hot tub full of Wesson Oil.

The gay lobby is turning what used to be mere disgust at their lifestyle into into something darker. They already had the right to shove whatever they wanted wherever they wanted, provided it was with their partner(s). Now they are attempting to shove it down our throats. Tolerance has it's limits.

You got that right.

Nowadays when I see a swarm of deviants yelling "We're queer, we're here, get used to it!" then I start thinking in terms of napalm.

"...heterophobes..."

Excellent counter to use against the "other side". What are "they" afraid of? This confirms to me that it's all about money. There is big bucks to be made being homosexual. I WILL NOT use that pc tag that starts with "g" they give themselves. They are what they are and they know it.

"...The gay lobby is turning what used to be mere disgust at their lifestyle into into something darker..."[sic]

That something darker is not something you want to know.

One day soon people might wake up out of their drunken stupor and wonder how in the hell we as a country ever in our right minds ever granted legislative protection and rights to one because of their sexual "preference" realizing that "preference" is a product of free will and not an immutable, morally neutral characteristic like race or gender.

How do you ever plan to undo the damage already done?

If gay marriage passes, what will happen when two homosexuals in a Catholic church decide they want to get married and have a church wedding?

Surely the church cannot discriminate.

...political correctness gone amok.

No, it hasn't gone amok at all, IMO. It's all well orchestrated. The gays, the flag, the Ten Commandments, changing school names, gun control, and all things politically correct are used by the Left to practice using the courts to achieve judicially what they can't achieve legislatively....and, so far, it's working.

How do I plan to undo the damage done? I cannot. But, the next time I encounter a homo, instead of ignoring "him", I'll give him a look that says that there is no phobia involved in what I am thinking. In fact, there are a few starting to frequent the tavern I go to. I might have to start a discussion about this subject after setting the bar up for about three shots of whatever whiskey the patrons prefer. It's not going to undo the damage done, but it will definitely put a damper on whatever exultation they are feeling over recent developments.

Indeed, a few months earlier in New York, a nationally prominent gay activist named Kevin Jennings gave a speech, ``Winning the Cultural War,'' in which he boasted of inroads being made here in Massachusetts.

"Effective framing of the issue was the key to the success of the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth," he said. "We explained how homophobia represents a threat to students' safety by creating a climate where suicide is common."

This speech was, at one time, posted on Kevin Jennings' GLSEN website. However, it has been pulled. Here's an excerpt with a bit more detail:

Governor’s Commission Lies Continually About ‘Safety’ and ‘Suicide’

"Safety
A speech by a homosexual activist in 1995 revealed that he had used "safety" to delude Gov. Weld and the state legislature into adopting the homosexual agenda for the schools of Massachusetts. The speech was titled Winning the Culture War and was given by Kevin Jennings, Executive Director of the "Gay and Lesbian and Straight Teachers’ Network," at the "Human Rights Campaign Fund Leadership Conference" on March 5, 1995.

"If the Radical Right can succeed in portraying us as preying on children, we will lose. Their language ‘promoting homosexuality’ is one example is laced with subtle and not-so-subtle innuendo that we are ‘after their kids.’ We must learn from the abortion struggle, where the clever claiming of the term ‘pro-life’ allowed those who opposed abortion on demand to frame the issue to their advantage, to make sure that we do not allow ourselves to be painted into a corner before the debate even begins.

In Massachusetts the effective reframing of this issue was the key to the success of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. We immediately seized upon the opponent’s calling card safety and explained how homophobia represents a threat to students’ safety by creating a climate where violence, name-calling, health problems, and suicide are common. Titling our report "Making Schools Safe for Gay and Lesbian Youth," we automatically threw our opponents onto the defensive and stole their best line of attack. This framing short-circuited their arguments and left them back-pedaling from day one.

Finding the effective frame for your community is the key to victory. It must be linked to universal values that everyone in the community has in common.

In Massachusetts, no one could speak up against our frame and say, ‘Why, yes, I do think students should kill themselves’: this allowed us to set the terms for the debate.

In Massachusetts, we made creating an environment where youth could speak out our number one priority. We know that, confronted with real-live stories of youth who had suffered from homophobia, our opponents would have to attack people who had been victimized once, which put them in a bully position from which it would be hard to emerge looking good. More importantly, we made sure these youth met with elected officials so that, the next time these officials had to vote on something, there would be a specific face and story attached to the issue. We wanted them to have an actual kid in mind when they had to cast their votes. We won the vote in the Senate 33-7 as a result..."

Some other comments by Kevin Jennings:

Young Gay Activists Making a Difference

"It's probably no coincidence that the past decade, during which Hyde has observed a growth in youth activism, coincides with the proliferation of Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) in public high schools in Massachusetts and around the country. Back in 1992, just a handful of GSAs existed in the Bay State; now, more than half of its 300 hundred public high schools have active GSAs. While the primary focus of the groups is promoting tolerance and safety for all students, they allow students to branch out in other ways as well. ``I think it's just hard to overstate how important these bodies have been," says Kevin Jennings, executive director of the National Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). ``Because what they've done is they are kind of the place where these young people learn about leadership skills, how to be activists, and [students] are coming into college with already several years of effective organizing experience behind them. For a lot of us in the LGBT movement who are my age, it was on-the-job training if you would," laughs the 39 year-old Jennings. ``I'm looking at students who apply for internships here now who are 18 and already have 12 leadership positions with LGBT-related activities. ...It's amazing." ...

Needless to say, Jennings is enthusiastic about the influx of young people into the gay rights movement. ``I think we're at a watershed moment in the history of this movement where young people are moving to the front and center of it," he observes. ``And when that has happened in the past with other movements like the African-American civil rights movement or the Vietnam War movement, it was the factor that propelled those movements to victory. So I'm very hopeful for the future."

So how did we get from that point to where we are now...

The homosexual communtiy's well planned and well funded campaign began with the infiltrataion of the APA. Homosexuality was removed from the DSM as a result of homosexual activism, as documented here and here. This was the homosexual community's biggest victory. It permitted them to claim that "homosexuality is normal" and set the stage to present this "normalcy" to the general public via a well planned media campaign, and to kids in the public schools via Kevin Jennings' GLSEN. Kids as young as kindergarten age are now being indoctrinated with "homosexuality is normal."
