When Did Rush Limbaugh Become Defensive (and in so doing become boring)?
2/10/04

Posted on 02/10/2004 11:14:02 AM PST by pabianice

Perhaps it's just me, but I've seen a recent descent by Rush Limbaugh into defensiveness, petulance, high volume, and lack of fun. I started listening to Rush primarily for the entertainment value: he was the laughing guy giving Liberals the death of a thousand cuts as he threw those little spears bull fighters use into the Liberal Bull until it collapsed, exhausted and bleeding. There was parody, laughter, sharp politcial observation, laughter, and general fun.

This seems all behind us now. Rush sounds, most days, petulant, whiney, and definitely not fun. He seems to complain for three hours each day, or rage against the LIberals. Raging against anyone is a turn-off. He grew his audience by laughing at his politcial opponents.

Am I off base, or has something changed? Has the trumped-up drug charge so bruised him he has lost his sense of fun and sense of proportion? His voice is a critical component for conservatives in this election year.

I listened to him on the way into work and for the last 10 minutes of the 1st hour and the first 10 minutes of the 2nd (30 minutes total including ads) all he did was read press releases and news articles. Maybe he didn't have much preped for today.

Rush has been better since his rehab and the end of his ESPN gig. I think he knows this coming election is as critical as any and he is real going after the press like he did years ago.

For me, he got boring a long time ago after I got over the idea that someone in the media was different than all the pukes you could usually hear.

But if you think he's boring, try Hannity, or any liberal. The same old song, even if it's your favorite, gets boring after a while.

It's just you having a bad day. Rush is especially good today being the only loud voice I have heard defending the president on anything. I keep wondering what the Republicans are saving their fire for---when the RATS have moved on to other lies?

I agree. Why can't Rush get as outraged as the rest of us once in a while.

"...Perhaps it's just me..."

Yup, you're right. It IS you.

"...I started listening to Rush primarily for the entertainment value..."

I started listening to Rush in 1989 for the cogent attack on Liberalism and the strident defense of Conservatism. In case your new to the Rush Limbaugh Show, he accomplishes these twin goals through both commentary AND humor.

Furthermore, in case your new to the Rush Limbaugh Show, he has always become more strident during election years.

I agree.
is it just me or does it seem Rush's drug issues have lost him a little teensy bit of the moral high ground. seems he is more defensive. also- don't know if I just caught him on bad days- he is a little more off color. and truthfully the gay bashing jokes bug me. I think they are beneath rush, who during the dark years was our beacon. he should rise above that.

Speaking quite bluntly, I thought Rush had lost most of his edge in the last few years, but since his problems, he now sounds more like the old Rush to me. JMO.
