"Well actually, we lost that battle (Since no Texans came to help)"

I'm not sure of any numbers but was there not a small contingent (over 3) from Gonzales that did come to the Alamo?

Didn't Houston argue that the mission should be abandoned, and the defenders were not 'really' part of the Texas forces?

Besides, since Texas was then mexico, almost any gringo on hand was an outsider within his or her recent lifetime.

(And, the Texas 'rebels' were not only gringos, they had native indians and mexicans in their ranks as well.)

The San Jacinto Monument is taller than the Washington Monument

The Texas State Capitol building is about 14 Feet taller than the U.S. Capitol.... However the Louisiana Capital is the tallest state capitol building......

The nine-banded armadillo, which is what we have in the States, is between 365mm and 1,000mm - just over a foot to around three and a half feet.

I've never seen one that was bigger than a housecat, myself.

Another interesting fact that more people fought at the Alamo from the states of OH, KY, TN, AL, and many other states, than people from the TX Teritory (If I remember right, that number was 3). So TX you are welcome. Your ability to join the US was paid for with the blood of NON Texans. Everything is big in TX including their egos. Oh, my wife is from TX so you can understand my point of view.

Given that anyone who had been born here at the time would still be a child this is a pretty stupid statement. It's like saying the first several Presidents weren't born in the United States .... well no s^&%

Just guessing, a full grown armadillo would be about 18" long in the body & a tail about the same length. They would stand maybe 12" high at the back. I used to catch them by the tail & carry them around while the tried to scratch & bite me, but then I heard about the leprosy. Ick!

Another interesting tidbit was the attempted takeover of the newly-formed Republic of Texas by Germany, as documented in THIS THREAD on Free Republic.

I really am not an expert on the Alamo. I am just giving some Texans a hard time. Makes me feel at home since I get in these little Texas battles with the In-Laws. I do remember when I visited the Alamo, that I was surprised at the number of people from outside of the Texas territory, some as far away as New England, that fought at the Alamo. There is a room at the Alamo that has the flags of States and Territories w/ the number of participants from each. That is the extend of my "expertise".

I've never seen one that looked like this. I thought they always had their legs pointed up (and found next to the highway).

In Mexico you can buy a handbag made out of an armadillo shell. A special gift for Mrs. Eel? Let me know & I'll see if I can find one. LOL

Most that maintain yards and live near armadillos would say they have been pests for quite some time.

Hey you guys are the ones that claim the Alamo all the time as an example of Texas courage. I'm just pointing out the you are full of it. But if I understand you, your saying that Texas belonged to the Mexicans and "Y'all" are just squatters. Can't argue with you on that.

P.S. But I think the original owners are moving back in.

As a child we called them grave robbers.
They sometimes dug around grave stones.

"Just what percentage of Sam Houston's Army at the Battle of San Jacinto was not "Texan"?

Well since Texas was not yet a state I would have to say 100%.

,,, thanx for confirming that. I'm forwarding this thread to my eleven year old son. He's fascinated by these creatures and that, in turn, made me curious. We haven't got them in zoos here.
