[history]
A lawyer representing a parent who sued Captain Shreve High School and the Caddo Parish school system has asked that the Captain Shreve principal be put on leave until system officials investigate the handling of an October discipline incident.
Melanie Christy is seeking an unspecified amount of damages because her son, Justin Christy, was suspended and then expelled after a fifth of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey fell from his backpack and shattered on the floor during class on Oct. 6, 2003. Justin was a senior.

Maybe Mrs. Christy they should sue the manufacturer for putting whiskey in glass bottles, which shatter when they fall out of backpacks. Our she could sue the glass manufacturers.
Another foibles in what we call "public education."

Was he expelled because it was Kentucky Deluxe whiskey?

Note that no one denies that the kids were out drinking and driving the night before.....

She's going to sue the school board. That's where the money is.
It will all come out in court.
Apparently, the school board didn't consider the other kid's statement when making their decision. Maybe they feel they don't have to. If that's the case, they didn't exercise judgment, but then again, that's the beauty of zero-tolerance rules -- school officials don't have to make a decision. It does, however, make one wonder why they get paid the big bucks.
This kid will probably think twice about public education when it's time to chose a school for his kid.
