John Kerry Sex Scandal: U.S. Media Blackout?
MND Newswire ^ | February 13, 2004 | Mike LaSalle

Posted on 02/13/2004 9:31:09 AM PST by new cruelty

According to news reports across the Internet and in various international publications, Democratic Presidential front-runner John Kerry may have had an extramarital affair with a 22-year old blonde intern.

As first reported by the Drudge Report on Thursday, a full-scale investigation into this is underway at Time Magazine, ABC News, the Washington Post, the Hill, and the Associated Press.

But the real story today may be the lack of coverage by the major American news media.

According to a story published today in MensNewsDaily.com, "A source at one of the major television networks (said) that they are specifically forbidden to talk about (the Kerry sex scandal) on the air until one of the other major television networks reports on it first."

A quick search on Google News at this hour shows that only two major U.S. newspapers are running stories on the emerging Kerry sex scandal: The Philadelphia Daily News and the Chicago-Sun Times.

Yesterday, MensNewsDaily.com (MND) posted a brief story on the Kerry sex scandal, but the story was never indexed by Google News. The last time Google News failed to index and MND news item was when MND published the name of Kobe Bryant's accuser.

Internationally, the Kerry sex scandal story has been covered by the UK Sun, the UK Telegraph, various Australian papers.

The New York Times today published a piece defending Kerry against Republican attacks, declaring "the beginning of what party officials said would be an attempt to undercut Mr. Kerry's reputation at a time when he is riding high from repeated victories in primaries and caucuses." The Times piece did not mention the sex scandal by name.

According to an exclusive report released overnight by political gossip guru Matt Drudge, Kerry is preparing a response to the groundswell of questions surrounding this developing story.

Made me recall the one great man who was associated with the institution: Dr. Robert Goddard.

One of our local news stations in Columbus, Ohio (ABC affiliate) reported it on the noon news. There is a link on Drudge listing what stations or news orgs have even given the story a mention. It's a short list.

Anyone who's read the book "Bias" shouldn't be surprised. Or anyone who's watched the network news for years, for that matter.

"A source at one of the major television networks (said) that they are specifically forbidden to talk about (the Kerry sex scandal) on the air until one of the other major television networks reports on it first."

An unnamed source at an unnamed network who doesn't dare risk being identified for fear of being fired. Wasn't there a time when news reporters would do just about anything to break a major news story first, rather than second?

It used to be called a scoop. The last major scoop was achieved by Matt Drudge, precisely because Newsweak spiked Issikoff's story.

Kerry must have buggered her in his Worcester office, not DC.

You're accusing him of buggery, as well?

Retype-

Gee. . . It didn't take the media this long to jump on allegations made against Arnold Schwarzenegger?!?!? Oh wait that's because he ahs a (R) by his name.

$10 bucks says that the media treats Kerry's campaign with kid gloves over this whole issue. While of course if he was a Republican, they'd drag every crazy chick out of the woodshed with two bad words to say about him.

double standard?! what double standard?!

Tick, tick, tick is right. Monica took 4 days.

And Juanita Broaddrick took how many? Believe me, they can bury this. We don't know yet if that is their intention, but they are clearly treating it different than they would any story on Bush (surprise, surprise).

I seem to recall seeing the story about a burglary at the Dem HQ and thinking that this was it for Nixon. The election will be thrown into chaos. Then nothing. Will they never learn?

Which is a Sinclair owned affiliate. Conservative owned company. Both WSYX and WTTE (abc and fox respectively) share their newsroom resources...thus that suprises me none.

In the Arnold case, they waited until 5 days before the election (optimal time for maximum damage) to 'discover' news that was reported 3 years prior and to a large extent debunked 2 years prior... Anything like that on a Democrat is given the usual treatment:

1. Ignored (it's not news if we dont report it)
2. Dismissed as 'allegations'(duh, the truth can be called an 'allegation' if you dont bother fact-checking it).
2b. They try to spin it positively (wait for the DNC fax before making any news items).
3. called "old news, we heard it before" (it was in a right-wing newsletter with a circulation of 50 so we dont need to cover it)
4. "these are right-wing attacks" (we cant refute them but we can demonize anyone who dares mention them)
5. "let's move on" (please let's get back to who can socialize this country faster)

Sleep tight tonight, America, your press corps is awake. And scheming.

Rough patriots die in bleak places because the pudgy, pasty, and sexually ambiguious creatures of the press betray them.

Business as usual.

The girl's father has already spoken and has not been kind in his remarks about Kerry. .... Sleazeball is what I think he called Kerry, age 60, trying to mess with his 24 year old daughter...so the story is out.....
