ALBUQUERQUE  — CBS apologized Friday to American Indians angered by OutKast's (search) Grammy Awards performance, which featured feathers and war paint.

"We are very sorry if anyone was offended," said Nancy Carr, a CBS spokeswoman in Los Angeles.

As the final act of Sunday's Grammy telecast, OutKast's Andre "3000" Benjamin and several dancers swirled wildly around a green teepee as he sang "Hey Ya!" (search) Costumes included war paint, feathers and fringe.

I saw the whole thing. And to make matter worse, both of Andre's nipples were showing! (Though I couldn't tell if anyone had a nipple shield.) Ya gotta feel sorry for those CBS execs. They can't seem to do anything right these days. It's a neverending nightmare of nipples and feathers.

Let's just hope that the Village People never get nominated for a Grammy - they may have to make their "native American" character stay home!

The scary thing is that one day, Village People will get a "Lifetime Achievement" award. Sure, it'll be during a slow year, but it will happen.

Bad Reagan movie full of lies and hate speech...knowing they approved a sex filled and in your face Super Bowl halftime show...and now more apologies for the Grammy's.

Wake up people. This is the new publicity machine. Present the "horrible behavior" everyone complains about and then "apologize" to get more press and viewers to see "what they will show up and apologize for next"!

What a crock.

Folks, just stop watching them and stop talking about them. Then write, e-mail or call every sponser they have and tell them you are going to stop spending money with them.

with all due respect to freepers, if Outkast wore a t-shirt that said "Kerry in 2004" we would have been offended and boycotted him and CBS. i think it is ok for native americans to be a bit tussled by this.

I remember thinking at the time that someone would be getting their knickers... um... loincloth on a bunch over the performance. I wonder if the CBS execs were worried about being labled "anti-Black" if they had voiced any objection to OutKast's idea for their staging.

I suppose if I was a Native-American who detested public displays of nudity, hated left-wing bias in news reporting and thought Ronald Reagan was the best president of the 20th Century, SeeBS would certainly be on my sh!tlist by now.

"Shake it like a Polaroid picture"

South American Indians used to believe that taking your picture somehow meant stealing your soul, so I am sure that they are highly offended by that line. Also, was Polaroid(TM) paid a royalty for the use of their trademarked name in this song?

Even more outragerous than this BS, OutKast was actually sued by Rosa Parks for their song "Rosa Parks" which contained the line "Ahhhhh...hush that fuss / everybody move to the back of the bus"

If the libs can take a freedom-of-expression stand in favor of a crucifix in urine, someone ought to be speaking out for the freedom to parade cute cheerleaders in green pseudo-Indian costumes. This is not the same as bumping and grinding and flashing female breasts to a family audience.

Is it OK to have feather pillows, or is it disrespectful of feathers to sleep on them?

Well, I related the picture of the Lone Ranger and Tonto to the current situation- maybe clumsily, admittedly- but I was trying to point out that the Lone Ranger, a much loved TV show from the past, could not even be produced today because it would cause too much offense.

If we continue like this, eventually we will not be able to have any sort of television programs at all because it's always going to offend somebody somehow.

TONTO: Me think 'um gonna call my lawyer and boycott CBS...

LR: Don't move a muscle, my politically correct friend, I'm think we've had quite enough of this PC BS...

Actually, I've had enough of CBS for the half-time porn show. Yet I'm not so upset about the creative use of "feathers" and Indian costumes in a music act. We've tolerated the use of the American flag for clothing which I think should be offensive to all Americans. We've tolerated the bashing of Whites, Christians, Jews and other races in some way or another. We don't have a right to not be offended. Welcome to the club, my "red brothers"...

Now, I didn't watch the show. So unless these guys were defiling icons of Indian culture, I believe I'm being reasonable. If I'm incorrect, well, maybe they know how we felt about the art exhibit in NYC where they had a cross in a bottle urine and other Christian icons defiled in a similar fashion.

I'm not so inclined to support a "PC for me but not for thee" attitude here, though.
