TIKRIT, Iraq  — U.S. Army engineers have sealed the underground bunker where former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was captured to prevent it from becoming a tourist attraction, a military spokesman said Saturday.

Soldiers lowered a 300-pound slab of concrete over the hole Feb. 4, said Master Sgt. Robert Cargie, a spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division.

Title makes one think of the German-designed James-Bond-villain-style fortress we all saw schematics of in Time magazine.

Seems like "spider-hole" is the agreed-upon term, not "bunker".

TIKRIT, Iraq — U.S. Army engineers have sealed the underground bunker where former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was captured to prevent it from becoming a tourist attraction, a military spokesman said Saturday.

8 The Day Iraq Learned Saddam Was Captured ~ EducationNews.org  | 12/16/03 | Christina Asquith
 "Ladies and Gentleman, We got him." "The Iraqi reporters at the press conference didn't feign objectivity...one Iraqi reporter...crumpled back into his seat in sobs before 300 of his colleagues-reporters from The New York Times, CBS, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune-who watched in silence. This brief moment changed the tone of the press conference. I came the closest yet to understanding the anguish, humiliation and terror that was Saddam's strongest weapon."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Truth didn't "take" with our press, it appears.
The vast majority of Iraqis are very glad the monster's gone.
The intel, capture of our enemies, Iraqi allies stepping up to help secure their own nation have all increased dramatically since Saddam's capture.
So have a few last desperate acts of a dying terrorist threat in Iraq, sore losers ~ and losers they are - emboldened by a blind press.
I was wondering about that as well.
How did it go from "spider hole" (which it clearly was/is) to "bunker?"
Probably the same way that the homicide bombers and guerilla fighters in Iraq are called "insurgents" -- through their willing accomplices in the media.
This is STUPID!
A bit of C-4 and afterwards cover everything with dirt would have been much more effective than laying a MONUMENT on top of it to preserve the hole!
Must have been some PC clintonoid pr type that thought this one up.
How can a measly 300 lbs. stop anybody?  For Heaven's sake, Michael Moore's fat butt would barely cover the pit.
I was just thinking about how the US Corps of Engineers, at Clinton's orders, put slabs of concrete over the site where Kennewick man was discovered, too. Jimmie Hoffa was a trend setter.
He's busy taping next season's episodes of The Surreal Life with Vanilla Ice, Ron Jeremy, and Tammy Faye-Baker.
At least the media has dropped their rumor mongering claims that Saddam was already captured when the Americans got him (the conspiracy goes that Iraqis had captured him, that was a jail cell and not a "bunker"). They never were able to explain how all that cash figured into the theory.
Well, I'd been wondering why Ms. Rotten had been keeping her piehole shut lately---they apparently used her as the lid! God I love that George W. Bush and his ideas like this one. LOL
