Couric: "Question is, Why Did President Bush Get an Honorable Discharge?"
The Today Show
Posted on 02/16/2004 4:27:10 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest
Katie Couric saved the worst for last today.
In what was shaping up as a ho-hum discussion of presidential politics with former Clinton Press Secretary Joe Lockhart and conservative commentator Bay Buchanan, in the last minute or so Katie unleashed a sneak attack on W's National Guard service.
Couric reviewed what she described as a muddled state of documentation surrounding W's service. Her ensuing statement, although somewhat ambiguous as to subject and object, seemed to be "the question is . . . why did President Bush receive an honorable discharge?"
Lockhart, having served as press secretary to the country's most famous draft dodger, could not be as aggressive as he might have liked. He "graciously" observed that the country has already considered the question and decided that taking steps to avoid service in Vietnam is not "disqualifying" for the presidency.
However, he continued: "when the issue of Bush's service first arose in the 2000 campaign, people gave him a pass on it. However, this time it's different because . . . "
Here, Katie jumped in and "helpfully" finished his sentence for him: "because the country is now at war!"
Katie then aimed a couple barbed questions at Buchanan regarding the President's "credibility problem." Bay turned it around and claimed it was Kerry who had credibility issues.

Couric obviously does not want to let the National Guard issue die away, and took one last shot at stirring the pot by putting a new question on the table "why did President Bush receive an honorable discharge?"
A truly despicable performance by the affable Eva Braun. Perhaps she was feeling bitter over the Yankees signing of A-Rod. I believe one of her squeezes is a Red Sox owner.

The question I have is "Why did Katie Couric get a multi-million dollar contract?"
To: governsleastgovernsbest
No the question is why when Katie went to have her colonoscopy did they give her a lobotomy instead?

If the stupid so-called conservatives and/or Republicans don't get their act together and start being AGGRESSIVE and more CONFRONTATIONAL when up against these creeps, then we might as well hang it up...
we need about 1000 more Anne Coulters...
but the leftist media know what they are doing...by placing these weak "conservatives" who aren't even Bush backers in against the Toon idiots......
the Republicans/conservatives have got to realize that being nice will get them nothing at all....
of course, what do you expect from Bab Buchannon...probably all set to help her brother to sabatoge the Bush campaign again...

Our strategy to counter the National Guard accusation should be to simply say every time it's brought up, "only ONE of the two candidates has FOUR YEARS AS COMMANDER IN CHIEF ON HIS RESUME," and leave it at that.

".....I hope she and her lib press pals keep pushing on this non-issue...."
This is a damned stupid thing for the Demonlovers to be pushing since no seems to actually know what DookWayne Kerry actually did in 'Nam in the 4 short months thst he was there.
Given what a sneak he 's shaping up to be,I'm beginning to wonder how noble he was 30 years ago. Where's his crew, his band of brothers, you know, the awed eyewitnesses to his Audie Murphy-like performance
It's only Feb, we have a lot of time 'till the election.

Katie honey, he got an Honorable Discharge because he served honorably. Despite what the demoncrats say, he completed his service and was honorably discharged. And unlike his soon-to-be opponent, he didn't slander his fellow servicemen when he returned to civilian life.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Seems like the National Guard thing is ALL the libs have right now so the "One-Note Samba" plays on.
They don't know it yet but the audience is bored with the subject and they are just making fools of themselves.

My standard Katie Poem follows.
Katie
My TV set is seldom on,
The place called NBC.
I seldom stop to listen to,
The lies they fling at me.
But every now and sometimes then,
I have to cruise on by.
To watch the little evil snit,
And laugh right in her eye.
She wrinkles up her face so tight,
It looks just like a fist.
If something good she must report,
You'll see that she is pissed.
She hates Bush and Arnold too,
America she loathes.
If I was network president,
She couldnt buy her clothes.
So this I say for all to hear,
I think that she's a slob.
Ms Courics insignificant,
Id love to take her job.

Calling on you and others in time zones where the first half-hour of Today hasn't come on yet to watch the interview and confirm whether I correctly understood Katie to be raising the question as to why W received an honorable discharge.
As mentioned, the question wasn't made in one uninterrupted sentence, but I'm fairly confident that is what she was trying to say.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Classic mainstream media behavior. If a Republican is accused of anything, the Republican must prove it did not happen. If a Democrat is accused of anything, the Republicans must prove it did happen. Either way, the burden of proof is always on the Republicans.

I never watch NBC, CBS, ABC or CNN. NEVER.My reports on the nefarious doings at The Today Show frequently elicit replies along the lines of yours. Your decision is entirely understandable. I watch out of a combo of masochism, the fact that Today tends to get the most interesting guests, and the belief it's worthwhile to keep an eye on what the liberal media are up to and report back thereon to my fellow FReepers.

If a Democrat is accused of anything, the Republicans must prove it did happen. Either way, the burden of proof is always on the Republicans."This is the point I've been making with liberals this weekend: if the media is so unbiased, why does George Bush have to prove his innocence on his serving in the Guard, but the media won't run with the Kerry affair story until it is 100% proven?
I have yet to get an answer. There is no defense for this double standard. This is one of the most blatant examples to come by in a long time.

Now in the twilight of a mediocre career, at one point I was trained to recognize propaganda in foreign media.
What these networks do -- are classic, textbook cases of pure propaganda.
Disinformation at its finest, they are masters at what they do, I'll give them that much.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
As an aside, consider the choice of guests. On the one hand Joe Lockhart, a certified Dem flack and Bush hater. On the other hand, Bay Buchanan, sister to Patrick, whose support for Bush is equivocal at best.
It's similar to the liberal media's predilection for guests like Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel: while his Republican label gives them cover, he can be relied on to criticize the President.
I must say that today Bay did give an unqualified defense of the President. Katie must have been disappointed.
To: Bluntpoint
The Republicans will have a couple of hundred million to counter the made up Dem lies. Bottom line is that Bush is the real thing and Kerry is a fabrication of what the Dems would like to run--he is and remains "Bubba-lite" with no charisma.(a bs factor that bubba used to get elected)

Oops, wait, she's too old for that. Must be early stages of senility then.
Maybe Ms Couric ought to be asking how JFK got three purple hearts without ever being hospitalized? I can just vision the scene-----JFK's buddy Radar saying, "Here Colonel, sign these papers. No need to read them, they are just orders for toilet paper."
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Clearly Couric should have been watching LTC Calhoun on Fox News.
Not only did LTC Calhoun verify Bush's NG attendance but when asked if he felt that the Pres had skirted Vietnam service he said something to the effect of "Not if you were a fighter pilot..."
