I found out on another thread he was registered in the last round of the draft with number 89 but his number was not called.

He did not volunteer. According to the dems, he is a coward.

Personally, the only other state I'd care to live in besides Wisconsin is Texas.

Ditto.

I believe his age has been reported as exactly fifty, which would mean he probably was graduating high school about the time the war ended. In all fairness I don't think he was a candidate for Vietnam.

If, in fact, he is 50, then he was eligible for conscription through the draft-lottery. There were several years when they cast lots and assigned numbers to dates of the year. If your birthday fell on a date with a low number, you were more likely subject to the draft. In 1971, my number was 289 making it extremely unlikely I would be drafted. I stayed in college and ultimately joined the Navy for 8 years of duty as a medical officer.

Edwards was subject to the draft-lottery.

"As long as the subject has come up, the below link might be helpful: (BTW, Edwards was born on 10 Jun 53)

http://www.sss.gov/lotter4.htm

Edwards was suject to the last of four lotteries held and had a number of "89." According to the info on the link, no one was inducted from the last lottery.

You're right, he could have enlisted or volunteered for the draft, but that is another issue

I do not believe there is an anti-southern bias in Wisconsin, though there might be one among the people you talk to in the community in which you live.

I actually saw her recently, with her husband who was giving a speech. She looked like such a wreck that it was honestly shocking...and there was not a trace of a smile on her face through the speech. I have never seen the wife of a Presidential candidate not at least TRY to muster up some enthusiasm when in public, to at least appear to be optimistic and loving/supportive. That photo speaks volumes. She is wincing and stiffening up with almost a grimace on her face...As if she loathes him.

"We in Tennessee KNOW JUNIOR real well. He's a LIBERAL, don't let his soft spokeness fool you."

I know he's a liberal, but that's not how the media will portray him. He's been smart enough to vote the right way on a few hot button issues, and his ACU rating is higher than many white liberals. I agree with you that he won't be able to fool as many Tennesseans as people from outside TN (which is why I hope he runs for the Senate in 2006 if Frist doesn't run again and gets whipped by Marsha Blackburn), but he would be a VP candidate who could motivate black voters without being as scary to non-blacks as, say, John Lewis of Georgia or Maxine Waters of California.
