It's awful that people have to eat rats!!! What's worse is; they're even feeding them to the babies!!!!

Low carb or not...I'm not feeding rats to babies!!!!!

The Khmer, Thai Isaan, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other Asian ethnics have always eaten rice field rats. They're not street rats.

Very true. I remember when I was in Cambodia in 1997 and there were a group of kids roasting up some rats on a fire. Nothing new.

Being in a container with tamed rats would be something on the order of being in it with retriever puppies....they're exhuberant and energetic, not vicious. Now the leavins after...could be messy...but can't blame the rats for having small bladders and bowels! I let mine climb on me and snuggle up when I have them out and the worst I get is a minor dousing or rarely, a scratch from a nail....they're actually very gentle animals.

I wish the MuttlySuperComputer would post a photo of some yummy, deep-fried, gooey, natural-custard-filled Tarantulas those happy, indulged Southeast Asian gourmets suck up by the cartload. I suppose it's all contextual, and what you're used to. They would probably go into convulsions after sampling a Jack-in-the-Pine-Box "Super Taco."

Muttly once knew a nice, elderly couple...who traveled to China with their little poodle. Sounds like a classic joke...but they were quite serious about it, and trained Anthropologists. They gave their pup to the Maitre 'D, to bring to the kitchen to be fed, because it was not allowed to do so at their table. Well.....they found out later....

Now, I love a good "Bushy-tailed Limb Rat" myself. They are also known as Grey Squirrel and properly prepared are excellent.

Skin them, quarter them, parboil in water with some baking soda to take care of the gamey taste, then brown in butter or Crisco in the bottom of a pressure cooker. Then add a cup of water or two, and pressure cook for about 30 min. Make a gravy with the drippings and serve with green beans and mashed potatoes (Yeah, Carlo, spuds are a no-no...but that is how Grandma Schulz did it!) The meat is tender and tasty.
