There's no PROOF they're AlQuada.

The oppressed people of Iraq INVITED them in AFTER the invasion.

I think that covers the spin. Assuming this is even reported tomorrow.

Of course the media is going to insist that these folk - if they're AQ - came into Iraq post invasion, which puts the kybosh (so they think) on any connection between AQ and Saddam...

That's right. We want eyewitness testimony from members of the al Qaeda National Guard swearing they saw these folks doing their little terror drills, etc.

Okay, here's my top 7 list. :-)

Zarqawi
OBL
His evil son
Al-Zawahiri
Saif Adel
al-Masri
Mullah Krekar

I think that's reasonable, don't you folks?

US TROOPS CAPTURE AL QAEDA SUSPECTS

US troops have captured seven people with possible links to al Qaeda in a dawn raid on Baquba, 40 miles northeast of Baghdad.

"The intended targets were suspected members of anti-coalition operatives and may have links to al-Qaeda," a military spokesman said.

I need to get his name, and what all he did, so that I can counter argue the "Iraq didn't support terrorists" diatribe.

They were captured in Baquba? A young Pfc, a reservist from Lena, WI just died in Baquba on Monday when a roadside bomb exploded next to the convoy in which she was riding. She had only been in country for two weeks. If these SOBs had anything to do with her death......

OBL, Junior, Saif al-Adel, and al-Masri are all purportedly in Iran. Mullah Krekar just got released from jail in Norway.

Major al-Qaeda players right now inside Iraq, not necessarily in order of importance:

Zarqawi
Abu Iyad (Chechen, C-in-C of the pre-war foreign fighters)
Abdullah Hassan bin Mahmud (Irbil bombing mastermind)
Abu Wael (ex-Mukhabarat, al-Douri's liaison with Ansar al-Islam)
Ayub Afghani (Ansar military chief)
Shakir (9/11 co-conspirator)
Abdul Rahman Yassin (bombmaker, 1993 WTC cell)
Hijazi (Saudi al-Qaeda leader)
Helkoard Ahmed (Ansar spokesman)
Hemin Benishari (Ansar assassin)
Abdullah Shafei (Ansar leader now that Krekar's in Norway)

UPDATE:

7 with possible al-Qaida ties caught in Iraq

The Associated Press
2/18/2004, 1:01 p.m. ET

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — U.S. troops captured seven suspected militants believed linked to al-Qaida in a raid Wednesday in the central Iraqi city of Baqouba, the military said.

Troops from the 4th Infantry Division carried out the raid targeting an "anti-coalition cell" that may have ties to Osama bin Laden's terror group, a statement from U.S command said.

Seven suspects specifically targeted in the raid and 15 other people were detained, the statement said.

Baqouba is in the so-called "Sunni Triangle," north and west of Baghdad, the heartland of anti-U.S. violence in Iraq.

I believe those are just sub-headings to the more generic steps of "medicate" and "interrogate". The original poster was vague as to the specifics, after all...

Based on the few descriptions I've seen so far, it sounds as if they'll all turn out to be Ansar al-Islam folks as opposed to Al Qaeda.

But I'm still hoping and praying Zarqawi's in this group!

My theory is that we took over Iraq so that all the radical Muslims who want to do battle with us can have someplace easier to find us than New York City.

No US civilians hurt, no terrorism in our backyard.

Don't bother getting on an airplane, Johnny Jihad - just catch the next bus to Iraq if you want to blow your self up for Allah.

We'll be waiting for you.
