NEW DELHI: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's security cover provided by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has been withdrawn, according to Indian intelligence reports.
Intelligence agencies passed on this information to Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, even as secretary-level peace talks between India and Pakistan were winding up on a positive note in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The proximate reason is pressure from America, which recently designated him a terrorist and located him in Pakistan.
There were about 12 men from the ISI who formed a security ring around Dawood at Karachi's Tony Clifton area, his office and wherever he moved around in Pakistan.
The ISI had been providing Dawood with this cover for the last 10 years since the don shifted base to Pakistan after the Mumbai blasts in 1993.

Thank you for the Ping.
The article claims: "The proximate reason is pressure from America, which recently designated him a terrorist and located him in Pakistan."
Proximate reason, my a**. The US designated him a terrorist more than 4 months ago. The proximate reason must be something else.
There has been a sea-change in Pakistan. AQ Khan out of business. High level talks with India. Tenet's sudden and secret trip to Pakistan. Now Dawood - the importance is not just Dawood himself but that the US has forced ISI to concede publicly.
We know that the US infiltrated AQ Khan's network, and rumours have placed Musharraf somewhere in that compromised web.
Only part of this secret operation has come out. From the evidence, what the US has infiltrated is more than just AQ Khan's network:
Does the US have full control of ISI? If not, why the public spectacle and humiliation of ISI, offering us Dawood?
Is Pakistan's nuclear arsenal in the U.S.'s safekeeping? If not, why Pakistan's sudden willingness to hold high-level friendly talks with India?

Some background and way too much more info here.
The Bombay Mafias and their Gulf State counterparts exemplify the connections between gangsterism and jihad on the subcontinent and the Arabian peninsula. The stories are petty and tedious but if you're in the mood....
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/478315.cms Dawood ordered Shakeel to eliminate him at the earliest, but Salem got wind of this plan and fled from Dubai after the serial Mumbai bomb blasts in 1993.
.....Dawoods cronies have been constantly updating him about the progress of the litigation against Salem in Lisbon .
And suddenly it's not all that nice to have worked with Dawood Ibrahim....

I think it's part of Pakistan's punishment
"Is Pakistan's nuclear arsenal in the U.S.'s safekeeping?"
I don't know.......
"From the evidence, what the US has infiltrated is more than just AQ Khan's network:"
As I said the other day, I think the U.S. is getting tons of info out of this.
