Title 1, General Provisions Chapter 1, Rules of Construction Sec. 7. - Definition of ''marriage'' and ''spouse''
In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word ''marriage'' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ''spouse'' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife
Title One is positive law, which means the legal beagles have gone over it, and determined the meaning and phraseology is constitutional, and reflects the original statutes.
--if you walk into any agency or bureau of the United States (the federal government), this is the definition they are bound to obey.

It is definitely an issue that will kill the Dims. It's the one issue that they are defending that will destroy any chance of winning because they are so strong on commitment to this issue.

Wedge issue? You bet. But President Bush has got to follow thru and amend the constitution. If the GOP just talks about how they are against it, that wont work, they must do something about it. Sure we all know that any constitution amendment will
take a long time, but at least they made a move toward it and that will make people happy. Especially since the Dims will oppose it.

--while I suspect this whole noxious movement will have unintended consequences, backlash, and other things the Gay Marriage folks never anticipated, it should never have been allowed to come this far.

When the subject was first broached in the national conversation ( when? 1998? ) it should have been laughed, ridiculed, and hounded into extinction.

If you need to see where this leads, look up hate crime laws in Canada, where merely criticizing gays has become illegal. That's where they want to take America. It's time to kick back.

Ten years ago, this guy wouldn't have been able to leave his house had he publicly stated his perversity back then. Now he represents just one of many emerging "alternative lifestyles." Who knows what kind of perversion will come out of the woodwork next in an effort to gain acceptability in our brave new "Sodom-and-Gemorah" world.

Well, the King is a reluctant one, but this is without question a culture war, and I do not believe in fence-sitting.

If the issue was merely one of simple purely legal parity, I would side with the gays.

It isn't, so I don't.

The Death of Right and Wrong: Exposing the Lefts Assault on Our ...
... The Death of Right and Wrong: Exposing the Lefts Assault on Our Culture and Values
by Authors: Tammy Bruce Released: 22 April, 2003 ISBN: 0761516638 Hardcover ...

Excerpt:

In this informative and disturbing book, Tammy Bruce starts out with a traumatic episode from her youth to describe her personal and political journey. It is an honest account of the people and events that shaped her beliefs and convictions. At the same time it reveals some horrific aspects of popular culture, politics and the media as they operate today.

Bruce exposes the rank hypocrisy, soul-destroying motives and malevolent mind-set of the Left in chapters dealing with the Academic, Black, Gay and Feminist Elites, plus some destructive tendencies in the arts, the media and the justice system in the United States today. Some of her examples make harrowing reading, whilst her insight is often tinged by a bit of humour, for example when she identifies the gangster rapper as the current equivalent of Rousseaus "noble savage" in the eyes of the Left.

Bruces diagnosis rings true. She discusses the mental disease called malignant narcissism and explains how it is rooted in trauma that never attempts recovery. These individuals, instead of seeking psychological help, are focusing on social change. In other words, they want the rest of society to mirror their own hurt and pain.

She makes a very convincing case for the fact that an entire wing of politics is invested in the victim-hood of its constituency, the leaders of which are trying to work out their demons on society. This is scary stuff, but easy to recognize from the examples in the book or by taking a critical and discerning approach towards trends in the media.

The most shocking example of just how far this worldview has penetrated our society is the fact that many of these Left elite groups actually think that sexualizing your children for their own perverted benefit is a good thing! For example, GLSEN and their cartoon STD characters (page 115), or the ongoing work of the ultimate in mainstream pedophile supporters, Judith Levine, who states that "Sex is not harmful to children...there are many ways even the smallest of children can partake in it" (page 193). As outrageous as this sounds, it is not some fringe group of marginalized pedophiles that want this evil perpetrated to rationalize their depravity, but rather the leaders of the "special interest" groups on the Left, sponsored by their friends in the media. Well-documented facts throughout the book reveal this agenda clearly.

The book is essentially a direct assault on the "Looking Glass" world of moral relativism. Within this worldview, there is no right or wrong, therefore all behaviors and all results of that behavior cannot be condemned. Of course the hypocrisy of the Left condemning others is clear to everyone, and she outlines it in example after example. Whether this is glorifying cold-blooded killers, pedophiles, and rapists, or whether it is hypocritically attacking and silencing those whose views would judge the actions of convicted murderers as "wrong" the source is the same. The cause is the "malignant narcissism" of the damaged people who comprise the Left elite, in particular those who lead the various "special interest" groups. Unfortunately, through this agenda to destroy value and virtue, everyone is painted through the lens of the worst offender, even those within those groups who are good and decent people.

Tammy Bruce was invited to come and speak to the Washington County Republicans about a year ago. When I received the email notification I immediately sent it along to my entire list, having read basically what you shared here. I was psyched!

I received back one surprising reply with a link to Ms. Bruce's homepage, where the very first paragraph of her bio introduces her as ...an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Reagan progressive feminist..

I concluded that she is one mixed-up lady. I sent out a retraction and did not attend her speech.

In the same vein it was recommended to me that I could conscientiously vote for a certain female candidate running as a Progressive for local office because she was a strong supporter of my right to keep and bear arms. A very small amount of time in research showed she was also an extreme promoter of abortion as a 'right.' I did not vote for her, and, thankfully, because of the lesson I had learned with Tammy Bruce, did my research before I sent out info praising her for her stand on the 2ndA.

While I would happily engage in conversation with either of these women - it would be my honor to have them over for dinner - and while I would be delighted to use our 'common ground' on some issues as a springboard to discussion of those issues on which we disagree completely, I can not hold them up as role models, submit myself to their 'instruction,' nor vote them into postitions of power in my government.

Tammy Bruce may be on her way to enlightenment, but she is not there yet. Receiving her into our tent is a given as far as I'm concerned, but allowing her a forum to move the tent pegs is not acceptable to me.

PS - Tammy Bruce voted for Bill Clinton twice.

Rush calls for pro-marriage activism
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/today.member.html ^ | Rush Limbaugh
Recall and impeachment are more to the point. Plus we have to light a fire under our legislators. There is hardly a political issue of greater importance than reforming our corrupt, activist, tyrannical judiciary. Legislators won't do anything unless they understand that this issue is important to their constituents.

I hope he addresses the bigger issue of renegade elected officials breaking the rule of law.
How do you propose we restore the proper balance of power between the federal and state governments now, which clearly is out of control and only going to become worse?

Homosexuals advocate groups. (Human Rights Coalition) must be in a panic over this.
This is a good debate. Once that concerns every mother and concerns every father.

I love how the media parrots the line that she was a "lesbian activist." I thought her former job was as a marketing person for Coors Beer -- she worked with gays and lesbian businesses on corporate tie-ins. Big difference from being a Dykes on Bikes member.

Civilization Watch: Humpty-Dumpty Logic (Orson Scott Card on Gay Marriage)
The Rhinoceros Times, Greensboro, NC / The Ornery American ^ | February 15, 2004 | Orson Scott Card
His fresh articles appear in the Rhinoceros Times, Greensboro, NC: http://www.rhinotimes.com/greensboro/  (before being posted permanently on his ornery website). He has 2 columns in the RhinoTimes: one on political/international events, and the second one: reviews on movies, books, and anything he wants (!). I check his and  Michael Medved's  reviews and found myself reliably relying on them.
