Can we begin to feel that we are winning?

I'm beginning to think we are winning. I used to worry a lot more. I'm starting to go with the theory that, short of some sort of WMD, there really isn't much they can pull off in the form of a large scale attack. And if they have the WMD, what are they waiting for?

Mansoor Ijaz just now on Fox News

I am putting this in my words but the jest of what Mansoor stated is as follows:

Sean I believe you definitely will understand this: 1)They must have gave us something really good for President Bush to whitewash this (nuclear sales).

2)Tenet went to Iran due to Iran preparing to test a nuclear device.

3)Nothing can be done about the nuclear devices (centrifuges P1 &P2, warhead components, etc., all kinds of things that should not be in the hands of whoever possesses them at the present (possessors unknown).

4)Our biggest worry at the present is a dirty bomb going off in a store near you.(literally).

5)Taskforce 121 is in Afganistan but it is not what the media is portraying it to be. Their job was complete in Iraq, so according to Ijaz they were sent elsewhere.

If anyone is a premium member of Fox News please try and get the transcript if there is one offered.

That's exactly what I thought, though I don't have the old one handy to compare.

Or the one before that, or the one before that, or....

the tribal members will kill members of their own family before giving up a guest of theirs.

If you have a den of poisonous snakes in your sights, do you eliminate the whole nest or wait until one of them makes a fatal strike at us?

Thanks for that update!!!

# 1 suggests that Pakistan is handing over OBL? That would severely contradict Seans story. Perhaps they have even better info, What could that be?

#2 Completely blows me away!!! What really happened in BAM?

#3, Does that mean nothing can be done about the nuclear devices at present, but it may be possible to do something in the future or where you refering to whomever presently owns them?

#4 suggests we do still need to take these threats seriously, :( darn, I was so hoping we were winning!!!!

Ah, good ole Mansur.

Y'know, it's funny, Mansur, an accomplished investment banker (google Crescent Investments), was educated as a nuclear physicist. His father was a pioneering nuclear scientist in Pakistan before migrating here.

All so nice for Mansur to act so innocent. With a luminary such as his father exhorting him to do Islam proud on his deathbed, it's too much for me to accept that Mansur knew nothing about this nuke operation run by the Paki State.

In addition to the Pearl Affair, his investments in Sudan, his connections to the militarymullah complex in Pakistan, is too much to question this man's role in the Khan network.

Who better to help the jihadis than someone sitting pretty with many elements of the American establishment.

CIA chief says Al Qaeda still dangerous

WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - CIA Director George Tenet said on Tuesday despite strides made against the al Qaeda network it remained capable of conducting an attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.

"Even catastrophic attacks on the scale of 11 September remain within al Qaeda's reach," he said in a testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee. "Make no mistake, these plots are hatched abroad, but they target U.S. soil or that of our allies."

Tenet said al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden "has gone deep underground. We are hunting him in some of the most unfriendly regions on earth. We follow every lead."

He praised Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for helping in the war against terrorism, calling him "a courageous and indispensable ally who has become the target of assassins for the help he's given us."

Tenet was presenting an assessment of the worldwide threat to security and was expected to come under criticism for the quality of intelligence on Iraq before last year's U.S.-led invasion. The CIA said President Saddam Hussein had threatening weapons of mass destruction but none have been found.

Tenet said in his testimony that one of the dangers that must be overcome is a global anti-American movement infected by bin Laden's agenda.

He said a steady growth of anti-U.S. sentiment among Sunni arab extremists "and the broad dissemination of al Qaeda's destructive expertise, ensure that a serious threat will remain for the foreseeable future -- with or without Al Qaeda in the picture."

Referring to plots using aircraft, he said authorities had uncovered new plans to recruit pilots and to evade new security measures in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Al Qaeda was blamed for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks using hijacked planes in America that killed about 3,000 people.

Bin Laden is believed to be hiding in the mountainous border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Iran 'made radioactive element'

Iran produced and experimented with polonium, a radioactive element that can be used in the chain reaction that produces a nuclear explosion, diplomats who have seen a status report on Iran's nuclear activity told CNN.

MEMRI:A column in the Iranian English-language government daily Tehran Times criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for allegedly breaching agreements between Iran and the IAEA, and called on the government to consider ending cooperation with the IAEA. The following are excerpts from the article:( 1) Iran Must Consider Suspending Cooperation Rather than Suspending Enriching Uranium

I buy all of what you said. In the very least, one of Mansoor Ijaz's "impeachable sources" would have tipped him off long, long, long ago.

Unimpeacheable must be a special word on Fox.

Mansur throws that out there, people go googoogaagaa and it's taken as statement of fact by those here, who are quick to decry all other anonymous sources in outlets such as NYT, WP and debka et al. But all suspension of disbelief is dropped for Mansur.

Plus, why's he been hanging in the UK. He lives here. Who he's avoiding and why?

what else can we really do about this Pakistani nuclear bazaar stuff. Try and roll it up as best we can, country by country, there doesn't seem to be completed weapons that are available (this Iranian test aside, let's see if that materializes).

"educated as a nuclear physicist"

"is too much to question this man's role in the Khan network. "

I had forgotton about his nuclear physics background (he didn't glow in the dark;) Not at all too much to question, this is connect the radioactive splots at this point. If he is clean, he will welcome any fine tooth combing at this time.
