i'm sure the dems will remark that we should have obtained a UN resolution before taking such drastic action

No. The Democrats will point to Haiti and blame the President for messing up the great job that Clinton did in Haiti.

Does the Navy guys still wear those funny pants and little round hats??? Course I understand a lot of them are "girls" now.

Not necessarily: The Marines at GTMO could have supplied a platoon, and Naval Air could've put them in there in about an hour.

Why didn't we just close the embassy and come home?
To: cynicom
Bell bottoms, Navy blue, neckerchiefs, battle stations, port & starboard, frigate, 13 buttoned trowsers, broadside. . .
This is the language of a long and battle-won tradition.
As opposed to Does the Navy guys . . .

Many moons ago, in God forsaken islands of the SW Pacific, we use to give the swabs free bottles of booze, which they as enlisted men were forbidden to have. They always loved to see us coming and we never failed them.

It was a bit of tongue in cheek swipe at the Navy.

According to FNC this morning, the rebel leaders have basically said that they have no intention of messing with these guys.
Good judgment, I'd say.
I guess Iraq and Afghanistan have actually taught some folks who and who not to f*** with.

THe Navy always keeps a squadron of ships (Carib Ready Group) to haul Marines and their landing equipment
but the transit takes ten days.
We deployed to off shore When Papa Doc died.

RightOnline,
Boy ain't that the truth. The would be scumbags all around the world are shaking in their boots after watching what happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. Just look at the different attitude coming out of Syria, Saudi Arabia and North Korea just to name a few, and that doesn't even include the complete rollover and throw his legs in the air that Colonel Buttboy did in Libya!!!

These Marines are part of the FAST Company at MCB Quantico,
Their mission is to re-inforce the Embasy Det.
