Theron Defends Gay Marriage
KCOY-TV ^ | 02/24/2004 | Unknown

Oscar-nominated actress Charlize Theron has spoken out in favor of gay marriage, branding those like Arnold Schwarzenegger who oppose it "prehistoric".

The Monster star, who grew up around a number of gay and bisexual people in her native South Africa, is appalled that gay marriage is still up for debate in this day and age.

Theron, currently dating Irish actor Stuart Townsend, says, "I just don't understand that at all. It's so unbelievably frustrating.

"I mean, I am surrounded by so many beautiful relationships just in my life, I can't tell you - just so inspirational. And the fact that what the sex is (of someone you love) is an issue is just unbelievable to me.

"I mean, love is such a hard f**king thing - to find somebody who's willing to go through anything with you and stand by you that, on its own, is so hard to find.

"The fact that people want to complicate it even more just absolutely baffles me. If it happens, cherish it! What does it matter if you're sharing it with a man or with a woman? It's very strange to me."

Actor-turned-California Governor Schwarzenegger ordered officials in San Francisco to stop their new practice of granting gay wedding licences.

Charlize Theron Theron  Charlize Theron

She is a beautiful talented actress. But looks like many other actors and actresses she can't keep her mouth shut. So, she is lefty as practically all of them. Big deal. I'd be more surprised if she was not. If we are going to avoid movies based on what the actors, or directors, or producers, or studio moguls said, it will be nothing to watch, period.

Its interesting that talented people doing honest job still can produce movies that are true, even its not exactly what they would say politically.

I think we developed undue respect to actors. Somehow we attach more significance to what they say than they truly deserve. Their worth as actors is in impersonating on stage or in film a character and presenting him/her to public so we can see the character as a real person (mostly in accordance with the vision of the character's creator- writer, producer, etc.). This is a quite rare special talent, to force the viewer to forget the actor and see another personality in front of us. But this talent has nothing to do with another human qualities like intelligence, kindness, wisdom, or practically anything else. [Resent movies demonstrated that beautiful can play ugly, tall people can play short people and skinny can play fat, although I did not see an opposite]. All the actor has to do is to be a perfect chameleon.  No more and no less. There are wonderful actors who I avoid to listen because they can't say a single unscripted word. When some can speak smoothly, it's often asinine.

Like, you know, not only brains, but she's got class too.

LOL! You just know she'd never fall for the old 5-dollar-bill-on-a-fishing-line across the front porch of her upscale double-wide. ;-)

Theron has an interesting background. South African by birth, her brother died in some iffy-accident (can't recall the details) and supposedly one of her long-term relationships ended when she caught her boyfriend with another guy. I hope the woman from IN AMERICA wins but Theron is a lock - and anyway, it's just a popularity contest right?

What do you expect from someone who helped her mother murder her father???

Oh, I remember reading something about that, but forgot the details. Didn't she claim her mother had been abused?

I'm also appalled that we are debating it. The answer should be that it's not acceptable to society.

Defending homosexual marriage is like insisting the dog crap on your shoes doesn't stink.

A shot across the bow. Now we know what the celebs will be bombarding us with on Oscar night. Maybe they will come up with some sort of ribbon to wear indicating their support of gay marriage. An empty barrel makes the most noise.

How many times do we have to hear celebrities say "I mean..."

Too bad she's too dumb to see the actual issue. It is NOT about "loving relationships" nor a gay couple doing whatever the hell they please in private. It is about making the institution of marriage extinct.

The new Hollywood

If you can't land a good acting part by screwing someone because they are a homosexual, then speak up in favor of homosexuality in public so they will know how sensitive you are and therefore you must be a wonderful actor/actress.

Not to be sexist, but female celebrities seem to do this more than male celebrities. (sarcastically) Like, you know what I mean (head bobbing from side to side).

Said in perfect Costume assistant's voice while helping array Ms. Theron in her burnt-orange frock: 'Someone, anyone, I need a waist cincher, please!'

Wait, wait. Let me get it straight (no pun intended). It's prehistoric to not want uncivilized activity put on the same moral level as normal activity. That's progressive "progress" for you. Take you back thousands of years and- voila!- "progress". HL ping in a minute.

Didn't she claim her mother had been abused?

Yes, they both claimed that he was abusive under the influence of alcohol; however, when the dastardly deed was done, she and her mother were the only two present and neither one would talk about it afterwards. Self defense was not absolutely apparent. Parade magazine had an article on theron and her best friend mommy in Februrary 1 issue.

And, she's up for an Oscar so, like Oscar winners before her (Julia, Gwyneth) she has to be pro-leftie so they can vote on her politics, and not on her acting.

Bingo. The kernel of truth.
