One minor nit. According to the "Making of" TV show on it one thing in the movie is more true to art history than to history. They showed nails going through the palms. That looked very impressive but probably isn't what happened. The palms aren't anatomically strong enough to hold the body's weight. Crucifixion likely put the nails through the wrists, which are strong enough. They recently found a crucified skeleton that confirmed this was the Roman way.

I once watched a dog die; he quivered for a while and then suddenly rose up and ran ten yards and collapsed dead in a heap at my feet.

By His stripes we are healed.

Who said that? I'm not kidding, I don't know, though it's a familiar phrase. Don't think it's biblical, however.

Isaiah 53:5
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
In context: Isaiah 53:4-6)

1 Peter 2:24
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.
In context: 1 Peter 2:23-25)

He won't go see it, even without his kids, yet he defends it.

Totally bizarre.

Encouraging others to see a movie he himself refuses to see? That is weird.

I have to agree. I have an almost 6 yr old and I want her now to understand the message of love and the miracles Jesus performed. She knows He was up on the cross for us all, she does not know yet how brutal it was. Just like she won't know the brutality that occurs in war yet. There is time to understand the intensity of the sacrifice as she matures and can understand it.

I've heard others with the zero tolerance policy on "r" rated movies saying they won't see it and it makes as much sense as the no guns zero tolerance policy at schools which gets 5 year olds suspended for using their fingers as play weapons.

I remember that from the heavy metal/glam/christian band called "Stryper", apparently in reference to the above.

We each have the right to choose whether we belong to Christ or we belong to satan. Please note there are only two choices, contrary to what some may wish to believe. If you choose to belong to Christ, then you accept His Lordship and your sins are paid for through His death on the cross. By the grace of God you are given eternal life with Him after your physical death. If you choose to ignore this gift, then you automatically accept the lordship of satan and you must pay for your own sins. After your physical death, you will spend eternity with him. It's a pretty clear choice to me, but everyone has to make up his own mind.

In *NO* way do I consider it inappropriate for my daughter Tobi (age 6), and I will be taking her to see it this weekend.

If I were you, I wouldn't. When I was 6, I went to a Sunday school class where the teacher delighted in showing us kids hideous torturous pictures of Christ's agony -- the crown of thorns, the blood through the hands, etc. etc. We were told that God did this out of love for us. I jumped up screaming and ran to the door, sobbing -- if that's the case, I didn't want God to Love me!

I was inconsolable. The reaction I had was so visceral, my parents had to be collected during the service. I've only been inside a Church a couple of times since then. I do not now nor ever will comprehend love=tortuous hideous death.

I don't plan to see the movie, but as I mentioned, I have a soft stomach for violence (haven't seen Braveheart, and had to walk out of Dances With Wolves.)

Let your 6 year old grow up first.

Well, anyone who dislikes Braveheart is clearly suffering from severe mental retardation.. as its easily one of the best movies ever made.. As for jesus, I will be seeing it clearly for historic value.. or atleast how Mel interprets history.. as I am in no way religious.

We saw it this morning. My sons are 13 and 15, and I was apprehensive about how they would handle it. However, they watched parts when I could not. I had to look away and cover my face a lot. The movie was breathtaking, realistic, moving (I could go on and on.) I don't think I would have taken my kids when they were 6, though...

I too love Braveheart. But I don't consider those who not liking it to be mentally retarded.

I don't think I've ever stopped watching a movie, except for Cabin Boy. It was truly unwatchable.
