This from someone who walked thru that Valley of Death known as the IA DRANG of Mid-November 1965:

Have no Fear,

for you are all very dearly LOVED.

I love you entirely,

GOD loves you perfectly.

And since...

...things may not be what they appear to be in this world, for...

...there are things in life you can see with your eyes and...

...in life there are things you see with your Heart

And since

...LOVE is the Only Reality

And since

...it is in your Loving and...

...being Loved in return,

...in your Heart,

...that you really do live on FOREVER...

...you cannot miss,

with LOVE.

Praise GOD that...

LOVE is the Only Reality and that...

GOD is LOVE.

Just ask Pope JOHN PAUL II -&- our blessed little TERRI SCHIAVO,

...who are together again now for the 1st time,

ETERNALLY..?

I have the book and could only watch the movie once. For the record, Bangor Troop greeting was started by a Veteran from that battle. George Nye didn't want our troops treated in the same manner he was treated when he returned home.

Having read the book, and seen the movie, I think Mel Gibson likes to tell it like it was. I couldn't be more thankful for that. Thank you, sir, for your stand and sacrifice. Americans...real Americans, well-up with tears and pride at what has been done for us by our soldiers. (Can't speak for the Libs, just us regular Americans.) God bless you, Aloha Ronnie, and your war-brothers.

ALOHA armymarinemom,

I rememeber being blessed to have embraced Pfc JIMMY D. NAKAYAMA's now grown lovely daughter at our 2003 IA DRANG Alumni Conference, JIMMY being Sergeant GEORGE NYE's good Battle of IA DRANG Brother who died on the day of his own daughter's birth.

I am reading that GEORGE NYE died of a heart attack in 1991 while decorating a Christmas Tree in Bangor, Maine for our returning Gulf War Heroes.

Sacrifice begets Sacrifice,
for the LOVE itself,
non-stop, in this hero's case..?

I'll never forget our landing in a U.S. Navy landing craft at the beaches of Qui Nhon before our being helilifted further inland to the Central Highlands and the 1st Major Battles for Freedom of the Vietnam War.

That was in the Lunar New Year 1965 ..The Year of the Horse.

We are now in the Lunar New Year 2005 ..The Year of the Rooster.

Wouldn't it be wonderful...
if the end of this Lunar New Year finds the Rooster singing his last song
...and it's a song of pure Joy,

...as we see Freedom's arrival to those beautiful long white sandy beaches of Vietnam,

...freeing the people there
to more freely LOVE one another..?

For, after all, isn't...

LOVE the Only Reality and

GOD is LOVE..?

Your words are far more eloquent than anything I could say.

I share your hope.

BTW,the beach landing wasn't at dawn,I trust. That would have been a bad time.

Hello Ronnie : )

A family member went in with 3rd Marine Mike Co. on operation Starlite 1965.
Grant was a Gunny with Mike Co...serving until 1969.
Mike Co had some very rough times in Quang Tri Prov.
The Hill fights in the Northern Ashua Valley complex...The DMZ [Operation Leatherneck....Con Thien]
Khe Sahn.

The internet has been a fantastic resource to study 3rd Marines history...allong with the many other U.S. forces units which they served with during the war.
Thanks for the links you posted on the various forums : )

As you coment...... Never Forget

Grant has passed away now and joined his friends on the Wall.
Following Grants history is how I arrived at Free Republic.

For Ronnie and Grant
A good name is more desirable than great riches,
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Proverbs 22: 1

Thank you for your kind sharing about your loved one's Heroism in Vietnam, over the years..!!!

After my April 1966 return home from the 1st Major Battles of the Vietnam War I went to work for Matson Steamship Lines which shipped autos and everything else to Hawaii, hence my "ALOHA RONNIE" Freeper handle in retirement after my 33 years there.

I saw many a Military family ship their autos to Honolulu thru us as their Head of Household Hero Soliders were about to go to new wars, as well as repeat tours of duty in Vietnam. I was there for them throughout, with my loving support. T'was my singular Honor and Gift.

Marines, particularly, were seen the most often by us as they were going back and back and back and back again to Vietman, while I saw their ever more fearful families go thru the "Drill" again as JOHN KERRY, JANE FONDA, TOM HAYDEN, BILL CLINTON, DIANE "hillary" RODHAM et al kept publically slamming them.

Where do we get such Heroes and their Hero Families...

...despite EVERYTHING..?

Wow!!...thankyou for the ping Ronnie.
Had just finished an inhouse mail to Gunrunner2,
sharing on family history in the U.S.,travels..visits to military admins.
a friends son ..who went and joined the Airforce.

Put part one of the interview link on hold to pop over and say thanks.
Ricks service history and Patriotism to America is the kinda stuff I like.
Its impactfull...and sincere.
Ricks the real deal!.

For those who may drop in on this thread.
A family member serving with 3rd Marine as a Gunny went into Vietnam in 1965 during operation Starlite.
Just north of Ronnie in Quang Tri Prov.
3rd Marine came out in 1969...surviving The Ashau valley complex hill fights...DMZ,Con Thein, operation leatherneck.
Khe Sahn.

Chats with Ronnie and the diverse base at FR helps me to really connect with Grants history.
Grant has passed away now.

Past decade..has been a journey for me thru the U.S. visiting members of a WW-2 Destroyer which carried the family name.
Family member was an Admniral during the Civil war and post.

Later period family in the U.S. armed forces....2 in the airforce....plus my friends son.
Gunrunner2 has crossed paths with one from Gulf war onward.
The other is with the 48th Tactial wing out of Lakenheath England.

Patriotism is a big to do with me.
FR is dear to my heart...has been wonderous for connecting me in all the right directions.
A family member in England was a test pilot on the Supermarine Spifire.
A battle of Britian vet...group commander.
He lost his life returning as a test pilot after the war.

Its a delight to participate in noble effort.
Fr is exactly that.
Gunrunner2 and Ronnie have both been out their on the line.
its just a moment's difference....and one single individual could be lost to us all.
A single individual matters highly....no B.S..
Matters like Rick Rescorla : )

Was delighted to learn of your participation in the book reffed in the interview Ronnie...
Way to go : )
Chatting with Gunnrunner2 today on FR and private has been a delight...a journey down memory lane for me...some reflection.
Family member Major J.J. Isherwood with the 48th Tactical spent duty time in operation north and southern watch.
so ya...F-15E's like Gunrunner2
allways looking for G2....hoping he will chat about Iraq.
LOL...have to restrain myself...delight in querries and new info.

am looking forward to Rick Rescorlas interview in the trade towers...
thanks Ronnie..this is great.

On final;

April 22nd is a reflective day for me..one which changed my life.
On this day in 1945...Destroyer USS Isherwood was crashed by a Kamikaze off Okinawa.
4 days before...they stood in on Radar Picket for valiant USS Laffey.
Destroyer USS Pringle was sunk onroute to help Laffey who was under attack and crashed by 7 kamikazes.
One of the Blue Jackets from Isherwood put me up for a time in his LA home.
It was Elizabeth Taylors home before.
He was the lone survivor of his Gun mount during the suicide attack.
His body was 80% burned by avgas...many painfull years of rehab.
Disfigured..he went on to do well in Insurance.

All these interactions have greatly impressed me.
Resolve..devotion..Patriotism.

During a naval reunion in Frisco...the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet cruiser division actually sought me out after learning of my presence.
I was blown away..why would a little nobody like me warrant such attention.
He was not invited to the Reunion...rather..he learned of it.
I guess during his Naval Academy years..they were required to do an essay on a U.S. warship history.
He picked USS Isherwood DD520.
Upon learning of the reunion...he self invited himself as a speaker.
so ya..with him came Alameda's color guard and some other brass.

a few weeks earlier.. am in a steel shop building oil facility process equipment for an American consortium.
later....am shaking hands with an Admiral and meeting the men who served on the Isherwood.

Sometimes its a little hard to share how Fr and my family history entwine.
yet..I imagine their are many stories similar to mine.

I have a very large scale model of the USS Isherwood,
above is a U.S Flag.
On the side..a US Marine corp helmet Vietnam era.

My friends son would drop by as a young teen ....the layout often encouraged his discussion on future plans to join the U.S. armed services.
Little things can be very impactfull.
If we are discerning...encouragement and sharing can yeild much benefit.

Thanks again Ronnie...G2.

FR is big....it has great reach : )

"My God, it was like Little Big Horn," recalls Pat Payne, a reconnaissance platoon leader. "We were all cowering in the bottom of our foxholes, expecting to get overrun. Rescorla gave us courage to face the coming dawn. He looked me in the eye and said, 'When the sun comes up, we're gonna kick some ass.' " : )

John Olson, a Morgan Stanley regional director, saw Rescorla reassuring colleagues in the 10th-floor stairwell. "Rick, you've got to get out, too," Olson told him. "As soon as I make sure everyone else is out," Rescorla replied : )

...Now there's another "PASSION" out there that shows us the tremendous suffering and sacrifices the once Free People of South Vietnam had to endure after Freedom's loss in order just to live, or be killed, from one day to the next.

This after we ABANDONED them to their fate at the hands of invading Godless Communist Bullies from the North 30 years ago:
