Crowd laughed at Koran seminar -
By Mark Russell - February 27, 2004
A pastor said yesterday the audience at a Christian seminar laughed when he read out excerpts from the Koran but he had not intended to ridicule or mock Muslims.
"If I read from the holy Koran that King Solomon heard the speech of an ant, some people might think it funny an ant can make a speech," Pastor Daniel Scot told the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. "That's not my fault.
"Sometimes people laugh for different reasons. I could not control them to laugh."
Pastor Scot said some Australians liked to tell jokes about their mother-in-law but this was considered offensive in other cultures.
He admitted telling the seminar Muslims could trade in their wives like used cars but denied this was a criticism. This was simply how Muslims valued women, according to the Koran, he said.
When asked if he had wanted the audience to laugh at what he said, the pastor, giving evidence in Victoria's first racial hatred case, said: "It was a religious meeting. It is customary in churches for people to laugh, speak, respond. It is nothing unusual."
The Islamic Council of Victoria has complained that Catch the Fire Ministries, Pastor Danny Nalliah and Pastor Scot had vilified Muslims at the March 2002 seminar titled Insight into Islam.
The council claims Muslims were described as terrorists and rapists by Pastor Scot, who presented himself as an expert on Islam.
Pastor Scot, a guest speaker at the seminar, denied setting out to make his audience afraid of Muslims, but did refer them to chapter five, verse 38, of the Koran, which said that under Islamic law the right hand of a thief should be chopped off and no one spared, even if someone had stolen an egg.
Questioned by Islamic Council barrister Brind Woinarski, QC, Pastor Scot agreed he omitted to tell the audience the next verse: "But who so repents after his wrongdoing, Allah will relent towards him, Allah is forgiving, merciful."
Pastor Scot said he did not think the verse was relevant.
He rejected Mr Woinarski's suggestion that the verse should have been read out to give the audience some context of what the Koran was saying that the thief's hand would be saved if he repented.
Pastor Scot said he believed the verse was saying that a thief who stole a second time and then repented would not be punished by having his right leg cut off.
The pastor said he was not judging the Koran, just telling people what it said.
The hearing, a test case for Victoria's Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001, continues today before judge Michael Higgins.
George Orwell, call your office.
And yes, it is a real site.
Precisely what this is and a hard thing to get across to some conservatives who want to control insulting radio programming and the like, by congressional intervention.
Thoughts are next, usually.
It is now illegal to hate.
It is no wonder that they are lost.
Despite knowing the gravity of the sin, you still commit the sin. There are numerous Ahadith relating to the worldly punishment of a homosexual in a Muslim country, the lightest being throwing him from a mountain. The punishment of the hereafter may well be imagined.
The flight of the dodo...
Basically, these people leave their brains at the Mosque door.
I think he is correct. Allah may well relent and forgive, but that is between the thief and Allah. His hand is still probably coming off because THAT is between the thief and the earthly judges!

And the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?"
Then Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand I would have killed you by now."
The donkey said to Balaam. "Am I not the donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?" And he said "No."
Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed his head and fell flat on his face. The Angel of the Lord said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me. But the donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, surely just now I would have slain you and let her live."
Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, "I have sinned for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me. Now then, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."

So do many Americans. Russians love mother-in-law jokes more than we do. What's his point?
Ah Ha! This is the guy who wrote "All your base are belong to us."
