Good morning and thanks for the bump.

I don't know how to respond to the replies, as I look at this story with mixed feelings. I've got many of the PTSD symptoms, many of my friends are 100%'ers, and as dearly as I love 'em, and enjoy my own self-esteem, I'd not want any of us with ultimate power. Same goes for jf'ink, his pathology stinks!

To me; his concentration on this single event, combined with the imaginary, wannabee cia horse$hit, suggest that a brief moment attempts to mask a longer reality, of delusional sceaming and influence peddling, and behind his pushing of influence his own protection and self-promotion. jf'ink's record stinks too, but as a Marine, I'm cynical about the way the other services give away that stuff.

Then we had his wife's little verbal slip a while back that Kerry still has flash-backs and nightmares where he wakes up screaming.

My 85 year old father, a WW2 veteran, suffers from occasional nightmare flashbacks still from being bombed nightly in Europe. I'll not be critical of a person with this type of reaction to a horrific experience. How they deal with real life past this experience and away from their nightmares is something to judge.

I would NEVER demean or marginalize what your father and others go through from the horrors they saw in WWII. And I'll bet like most most WWII vets your dad rarely talked about his experiences.

BTW, I was raised by an uncle who was a Tank Commander in the 4th Armored Division (3rd Army, GS Patton) and went into Bastogne to 'relieve' the 101st Airborne in the Battle of the Bulge. He was later wounded (burned over 30% of his body) when his Sherman tank went up against a Tiger Tank w/that nasty 88mm gun - he never talked about the war.

That being said, and talking specifically about JF Kerry, I don't want a guy with flashbacks carrying the nuclear launch codes in his pocket.

No shrink here.

Jfkerry seems to have memory problems. Maybe he has cooked his brain. Why else would he continue to watch his reenactment of a gun fight?

This could be why he takes so many sides of an issue cause he can't remember what he said before.

What is even more telling is that running on his "war" hero status and refusing to release his records. So what is the "war" hero hiding.

JFKerry has not looked well these past weeks, weak, frail gaunt and unstable. He never speaks for more than a few minutes at a time.

Just like replaying his reenactment of his battles he needs to replay the words about his "hero" status.

After reading this I am not sure he will hold it together until that convention.

Why does Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) talk incessantly about Vietnam?

Obviously, it has given him a great political advantage in past campaigns, and he hopes it will do the same in his race for the White House.

But there might be another reason. Perhaps more than any other presidential candidate in recent memory, Kerry seems to be living in another time, playing a movie of Vietnam over and over in his mind.

In fact, he is often playing an actual movie of Vietnam over and over on his television.

Consider this scene from a remarkable profile of Kerry published in the Boston Globe in October 1996, when Kerry was in a tough re-election battle.

Kerry told reporter Charles Sennott the oft-repeated story of the February 1969 firefight in which Kerry attacked the Viet Cong who ambushed his Swift boat....

But the story wasn't about the firefight itself. It was also Kerry's reaction to it.

The future senator was so "focused on his future ambitions," Sennott reported, that he bought a Super-8 movie camera, returned to the scene, and re-enacted the skirmish on film.

It was that film, transferred to videotape, that Kerry played for Sennott....

Some people become stuck in the time period in which they had their most intense experiences.

Others, perhaps with more mental or emotional flexibility, move on. Kerry seems to be the former.

At 60 years old, Kerry seems to be obsessed with the past in ways that the 57-year-old George W. Bush isn't.

And Kerry seems far older than, say, the 71-year-old Donald Rumsfeld -- a man who is always moving ahead, not inclined to lecture about the way things were 30 or 40 years ago.

Kerry's penchant for looking back would not a good trait in a president who will have to deal with a distinctly 21st century, post-Sept. 11 world.

America faces threats that were unheard of in Kerry's formative years. While those threats build, Kerry is turning on Hendrix, toking on an imaginary joint and telling you about Vietnam.
