I am in a corner here - I DO NOT personally condone gay marriage - I was always of the mindset of 'do whatever you want in the privacy of your own home'. But now it's in my face, and I don't like it. Now less than 8% of the population is going to dictate a change, and I fear about messing with the Constitution. This is REALLY A BAD THING, to put it simplistically. It would be totally unnecessary if the rule of law were enforced, but it's consistently being legislated unlawfully from the bench. What do we do? Congress has the power to rein in these rogues, but absolutely won't.

Not true-???? Over 80% (some polls I've read are over 90%) of Americans are dead set against open borders, and they want illegal aliens deported. That includes Latino Americans too-a majority (albeit a smaller majority) of them dislike lax immigration law enforcement. Do you see our laws being enforced? Good grief, why the H**l do we need a freakin' "caucus"??? We HAVE a ton of immigration laws on the books already-they're just not being enforced, and haven't been since the early 1990s.

The problem is exactly that, rogue courts, through egregious judicial activism, continuously legislate from the bench, ignoring the will of the people. This has put a lot of people in a corner, because they are tired of a few people in black robes acting like they are the high priests of us, the "unwashed masses." What we are seeing is the end result of years of attacks by the left on our institutions.

Does anyone like the idea of a Constitutional Amendment?

Believe me, the left would be all for it, if it advanced their agenda. Whereas we conservatives recognize the inherit dangers of this road, and realize just how serious an issue it is. However, our options, by actions of those who have decided they are above the law, have been circumscribed to the point where our only course of action is one we take very seriously.

Do I blame you if you are dead set against it? Not at all. Would I understand it if you could not ever support such an amendment? Most certainly, because it is obvious you have respect for the Constitution.

This should serve as a strong reminder to all the foolish Democrats and poll-gazers. Intensity of opposition to gay rights (be it marriage or other) increases with the publicity of it.

Just after their highest court gave the thumbs up to weird weddings, polling in Massachusetts showed most Bay Staters were for gay marriage. Now, the same polling organisations are finding solid majorities opposed. Californians will probably respond similarly. This is a lose-lose debate for the Democrats. The only way they can 'defuse' the issue is to support the Amendment. Even then, they lack credibility, but it would be a good first step.

All Kerry can do is proclaim 'I'm against gay marriage', but he offers no sure-fire remedy to ensure it doesn't happen. Such futile rhetoric may allay fears when there's nothing happening on an issue, but don't expect it to do so as San Fran weds the sodomites and as MA will be very shortly (unless something happens soon).

America wants action - now.

One potential Democratic loss could come from black voters, 58% of whom say they would not consider voting for a candidate who doesn’t share their views on the issue of gay marriage. Nearly all of those black voters who would not consider such a candidate are opposed to legalizing gay marriage.

Sounds like wishful thinking - or outright lying. Here in Georgia, the black legislators in the state House are singlehandedly standing up against a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. The one and only African-American who voted for it last week has now been challenged to change his vote, and the AJC reports this morning that he most likely will. How many of these people will be turned out of office as a result? Not one.

I agree with most of your points. What's 'not true' is that nobody in DC cares. Lots of folks in DC and in Congress are onto this hot issue and are proposing the right solutions. Alas, it doesnt include Bush and doesnt include the Democrat s or RINOs.

We just have to stick together and support the good guys on immigration.

I beleive the current immigration laws do not cut it and are abused by immigration lawyers, creating this mess we are in. The problem starts with the bad 1965 immmigration law that Ted Kennedy authored. To explain my view on immigration further, here's an op-ed I wrote on it:
