"Not to worry. For those Mel fans out there "Braveheart" will be shown in it's entirety on the USA Network at the same time tonight :^) Life is good"

LOL! I too saw that Braveheart was running at the same time as the Oscars tonight. Mel scores a double whammy on these Hollywood pukes and I love it!!

"No, I disagree. It's better than Mel didn't go to the stupid Oscars - then more people would've tuned in and boosted the show's ratings.
By Mel not going will guarantee another steep decline in viewership for the Academy Awards."

BINGO !!!
I am not going to watch the awards, But I would have if Mel was going to show up.
Smart move on his part.

"The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed."

ROTFLMAO! If they booed Mel, it would be good for another $100 Million. These people are clueless, IMHO!

Good. Mel is way above that liberal political debauchery disguised as an award show.

I would have watched just to see him, so I'm glad he declined.

More a case of not wanting to "cast pearls before swine".

Perhaps. Maybe he just didn't care to allow himself to be used.

I'm sure there will be live Oscar thread on FR tonight... so we can find out who wins without actually having to lower ourselves to the level of watching it (shudder.) My condolences to those brave east coast FReepers who will have their TV's tuned, giving us west coasters a running commentary on the foolishness!

I doubt that's the case.

The worst reaction is silence. The best is to be majorly cheered or majorly booed.

then more people would've tuned in and boosted the show's ratings.

Exactly right. And that's probably why they invited him!

Last year's Oscars was the lowest rating they ever had -- thus the "you can talk as long as you want to" trick for tonight's show; they are courting controversy!

Here's a profession where the top people make more money than 99.5% of the populace. They make it for pretending on film. This not being enough, they actually throw a party once a year to heap praises upon each other for pretending exceptionally well. In response the rest of the public is supposed to watch this specticle and swoon at the mere good fortune to witness the event. If they are exceptionally lucky, they can watch some spoiled ninny denounce our nation's leadership or trash the values of the 99.5% of the populace that doesn't make their living by pretending on film.

I enjoy some of the films that come out of Hollywierd. Somehow those films are seldom given awards. I do wish the Hollyweird set would use a little more judgement in some of the products they produce. As for watching the Acadamy Awards, not this guy. It's fine by me that they make the money they do, but as for needing to watch them heap praises on one another, I can't imagine anything less rewarding to do.

Great! Although I have the DVD, I will be watching Braveheart on USA tonight. I hope their ratings go through the roof!

Rumors around the 'net are that ABC will allow Bush and Passion bashing run rampant without any time limit, and that this is Hollywood's battle cry for gay marriage and try to connect support for Passion is anti-gay marriage.

What's that old saying, never stop your enemy when they are shooting themselves in the foot?

Only one thing though: the Oscars are the ONLY televised awards show that is not tape-delayed for the Pacific Time zone. I believe the AMPAS contract with ABC stipulates this.

Or as Rush would say, "when the other side is being stupid, get out of the way and let them!"

I understand that last year the Oscars viewership fell dramatically. Worst in over ten years. ABC locally was claiming "70 million" would watch this year. LOL, LOL, LOL !

I will be very surprised if even 25 million tune in to that self-glorifying piece of Hollyweird Crapola. Not me! I do care and do not care to watch a bunch of over paid jerks on parade. Let the Oscars tumble into the ash bin of history.

There were two surprises for me this year: Alec Baldwin did a great job in the film "The Cooler" and I project him as winner of best supporting actor. The other suprise for was to see his brother Steven Baldwin appear on a Christian network and strongly proclaim his own faith in the Lord. Amazing, simply amazing!
