Seeing the movie will become an act of religious faith. Nobody believed their soul was saved by Star Wars or the Titanic.

One thing that could spoil the numbers would be an early DVD release. Since Gibson does not seem to be into collecting megabucks for megabucks sake (he wants to put it all into his breakaway non-vatican-ii-catholic church, which is not a very big following), that is a distinct possibility.
