U.S. Hands Off Seven Russian Inmates at Guantanamo to Russia

The U.S. transferred seven Russian inmates from the anti-terrorism prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Russia, the U.S. Defense Department said.
The unidentified suspects were handed off to the Russian government ``for continued detention,'' the statement said. The action came after ``extensive discussions'' between the U.S. and Russia, the Pentagon said in an e-mailed statement. It didn't disclose when the transfer took place.

This may be intended as an object lesson: for all the detainees may rail about the Great Satan, I'm sure they'd rather be in American custody than handed over to the Russians, Turks or even the Saudis under pressure to get results and information out of them.
