Pat Elliott For Congress

CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE AND RESPONSE

1) What is your position on abortion - under what circumstances should abortion be made illegal/legal? When does life begin and how should it be protected at the state and federal levels? Do you agree or disagree with the Roe v Wade decision? Do you support the Human Life Amendment?

ProLife except in case of rape, incest or mother's life endangered. 1st. trimester only in rape or incest and two opinions on mother's life of doctors who don't know each other.

2) What is your interpretation of the First Amendment Establishment Clause? Do you support public religious expressions such as 10 commandment displays at courthouses and prayers at legislative sessions, football games, schools, etc.? Do you support school vouchers that can be for religious schools? 2b) What is your position on the McCain-Fiengold Campaign Finance Reform law? What is the best policy regarding campaign finance?

For public display of 10 Commandments and under God in pledge.
I support vouchers---period. McCain Feingold should be scrapped. Free speech. Campaign finance will have to be explored.

Also see THE FIRST AMENDMENT Section of Essay

3) Do you support the right to keep and bear arms? What is the purpose(or intent) of the 2nd Amendment? what policies do you support to preserve RKBA?

See THE SECOND AMENDMENT Section of Essay

4) Do you support the war on terror? What specific things should be done to win the war on terror? How do you define victory in this war? 4b) Are there any sections of the Patriot Act or the proposed Patriot Act II that you oppose?

I support the war on terror except the Patriot Act. Victory is fighting them on foreign shores and eliminating any organization dedicated to killing us.
Patriot Act-no renewal

5) What is your view of Federalism and the rights of states under the 9th and 10th amendments? What areas should the Federal govt leave to the states?

Anything not defined in the Constitution as authorized for the FED to do, they should keep their hands off.

Also see THE NINTH AND TENTH AMENDMENTS Sections of Essay

6) What role should the Federal judiciary play and how would you ensure judges stay within that role? What would you do to rein in excessive judicial activism? Are there specific court decisions you oppose, and what do you propose to correct them?

Interpret law. not legislate from the bench. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution gives congress power to create lower courts, and thus eliminate them. Section 2 gives congress the power to restrict the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. They haven't done it! They have been sitting on their hands!!! Impeach some of them for not upholding their Constitutional oath and the rest will fall into order.

7) What role should the United Nations play in US foreign policy? in US domestic policy?

The UN-no role whatsoever in our international or domestic policy.

8) What specific changes or refoms should be made to:
U.S. Tax System
Sales tax to replace graduated income tax.

Education System
Dept. of Education not authorized by the Constitution.

Social Security
Needs an overhaul. It cannot be done away with, at this time, because of the money Americans have invested in it.

Immigration Policies
For documented worker program and legal immigration. Cut off "entitlements," all of them to illegal, round them up and if they are not needed, send them back to where they came from.

Defense and Military
Strong defense-eliminate income tax from military pay.

Health Care System (including Medicare, Medicaid)
Government should not be in this business. Bring the private sector into play here and it might be considered.

Legal System (lawsuits)
Lawsuits-cap them just as Texas did.

Crime and Criminal Justice

Business Regulation
Way too much. OSHA, EPA, EEOC, FDA, USDA and on and on. This cost business too much along with excessive taxation and litigation. No wonder business is going offshore.

Energy Policy
Give incentives to explore and drill, especially in Alaska.

Government Organization

Trade
For free trade if it is on an even parity---and it is not. American business is hamstrung and this needs to stop. They are taxed 35%, have the threat of lawsuits and are over regulated. This all costs a lot of money. In addition, the taxpayer funded export/Import bank gives foreign governments money to tool up and send their goods back to us without all this mentioned above and it isn's fair to American Business. The WTO dictated to us and this should not be allowed by out President or congress.

9) What policies do you support to enhance Economic Growth and increase standard of living and create jobs? 9b) What is your position on trade (free trade versus trade barriers)? How should American policy respond to the outsourcing of jobs? 9c) Do you support or oppose the Bush guest worker program? Do you support or oppose amnesty for illegal aliens? Do you support increased immigration law enforcement (eg CLEAR Act)? Do you support or oppose immigration reforms to reduce immigration levels and the cost of immigration?

I am against about 95% of what the president stated in his immigrant policy. Enforce the immigration laws and make it unpleasant for those who are caught, and if they are caught twice, it should preclude them from even applying for citizenship in the U.S.

10) What policies do you support to protect the traditional family and the traditional definition of marriage? 10b) Do you oppose or support state laws recognizing homosexual/same-sex marriage and civil unions? How should the Federal govt handle this? What is your position concerning hate crimes? Do you support a Constitutional Amendment that declares marriage to be between a man and woman?

Homosexual marriages-Absolutely against. This is a part of the immorality that is gripping out country along with liberal revisionism. At this time, this involves state authority. A Constitutional Amendment will put it in the hands of the FEDS. As a last resort, I would support a Constitutional Amendment.

11) Do you support Term Limits? If so, in what form?

3 two year terms or 2 four year terms for congress and two 6 year terms for senators.

12) What is your position on affirmative action and racial preferences, and quotas? Should Texas Colleges and Universities use race as a factor in admissions?

Affirmative Action-NO!!!

13) Do you oppose Socialism? Why is Socialism wrong? How would you work to expose it and defeat it in our country? 13b) What will you do as a candidate and in office to advance Conservative causes and make the case for limited Government?

It is contrary to human nature and to the free choice God has given to mankind. When someone hears freedom of choice that socialism gives, that will get them to thinking.

14) What are your important qualifications and qualities that you bring as a candidate to this office?

See PatElliottForCongress.Com

15) What will your top priorities be in this position? To what extent does your faith and family affect your priorities and viewpoints?

To bring back morality, the strength and respect of the Constitution, and to bring back an outward respect to Christianity.

16) Why are you the best person for this office?

Some of my friends call me incorruptible when it comes to politics and business dealings.

17) What parts of the Texas Republican Principles and Platform do you agree with? Disagree with?

GOP platform-too long to comment.

Are there any ways in which the Heart of Texas(Central TX) and Houston Area Texans Chapters of FreeRepublic.com can help you in your campaign in addition to making an endorsement?

Help-Of course, funding or your organization running your own ads, within the laws, promoting a candidate.

This is the third of the responses to the rather lengthy questionnaire that was sent to all CD10 candidates. The candidates were informed to respond to as many questions as time allowed so even partial responses were welcomed.

I would like to thank Pat Elliott and his campaign staff for responding to our questionnaire at a very busy time during this campaign. For each candidate who responds, I will start a similiar thread.

Thanks also to all those who helped put this together and hopefully it will contribute to electing the best candidate available.

Elliott ping!

"Those who labour in the earth are the chosen people of God, if ever he had a chosen people, whose breasts he has made his peculiar deposit for substantial and genuine virtue. It is the focus in which he keeps alive that sacred fire, which otherwise might escape from the face of the earth. Corruption of morals in the mass of cultivators is a phaenomenon of which no age nor nation has furnished an example. It is the mark set on those, who not looking up to heaven, to their own soil and industry, as does the husbandman, for their subsistance, depend for it on the casualties and caprice of customers. Dependance begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition. This, the natural progress and consequence of the arts, has sometimes perhaps been retarded by accidental circumstances: but, generally speaking, the proportion which the aggregate of the other classes of citizens bears in any state to that of its husbandmen, is the proportion of its unsound to its healthy parts, and is a good-enough barometer whereby to measure its degree of corruption. While we have land to labour then, let us never wish to see our citizens occupied at a work-bench, or twirling a distaff. Carpenters, masons, smiths, are wanting in husbandry: but, for the general operations of manufacture, let our work-shops remain in Europe. It is better to carry provisions and materials to workmen there, than bring them to the provisions and materials, and with them their manners and principles. The loss by the transportation of commodities across the Atlantic will be made up in happiness and permanence of government. The mobs of great cities add just so much to the support of pure government, as sores do to the strength of the human body." - Jefferson, 1783
