WASHINGTON Democrats and Republicans fought to a draw in the Senate over guns Tuesday in a series of votes that could shelve most gun-control and gun-rights legislation for the year but elevate the issues in this fall's elections.

Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, the sponsor of the gunmaker immunity bill, said he would urge his colleagues to vote it down.

"Democrats said they are ready to fight. Until now, they had shied away from the gun issue while dealing with another culture-war concern, same-sex marriages."

First it's queer marriages. Then it's your guns.

You wonder why no one put a amendment in the bill to force states to recognize CCW permits of states that grant them.

If the full faith and credit works for queer marriages it surely should work for CCWs.

Can we get an deck of infamy playing cards of those who voted for the AWB renewal? The extras can be from Bill Clinton, McAuful, Gray Davis(crossed off) etc.

Which of the people who voted for the AWB are up for reelection.

With Kerry's and Edwards' help, the Senate voted 52-47 to renew the assault weapons ban, which outlaws 18 military-style rifles that law enforcement officials say are a favorite with gangs and criminals.

Gangs and criminals always pay attention to the LAW when they buy their guns. LOL

"Democrats blamed Al Gore's support for gun licensing and registration in 2000 for his loss in Southern and rural states, where hunting is a part of growing up. Since then, Democrats have veered toward a middle course, touting themselves as defenders of "responsible" gun ownership."

They stayed on that "middle course" until they found a chance to turn as hard left as they could, then they turned. This conclusively proves Kerry and whomever his VP candidate is will be just as fanatically determined to take all of our guns as the Clintons were and are.

Joe and fellow patriots, I have to say yesterday was a low point for me. I'm quite frustrated with our politicians who have such difficulty understanding the Constitution. Gallup says 61% (if memory serves) want "stronger gun laws." The sheep are led astray... The wolves are waiting for us.

Yesterday was a tense day for me when the amendments started passing. I was making so many phone calls to DC to request the Bill be killed, that I couldn't keep track of whose office I was dialing.

When it finally was killed it felt as if someone had taked the semi truck off of my chest and I could once again breathe a sigh of relief.

Waking up this morning I laid in bed wondering if my 60 or so phone call actually had an effect on what happened on the Senate floor.

Once a year, during recess I'll put on one of my overly expensive suits and just drop in on them. A quiet conversation with the Rep. and a couple of staff managers, a few thousand $$ later, they'll remember my name for another year.

What a damn lousy way to do business with our elected Reps!

Yup, it doesn't look good. I am afraid we are headed for a revolution or a civil war, and I do not say that lightly. It's bound to happen, sooner or later (I think sooner, in this case). The country is too polarized. The Left has unleashed an all-out assault on everything moral and honorable and just that freedom loving and God-believing Americans hold dear. The conflict is now inevitable: The anger and the distrust and the contempt the two sides have for each other is not only palpable, it's bursting at the seams. It will be an interesting conflict. God help us.

The article said: Republicans said they could not vote for a bill that included provisions opposed by their core constituents.

This is all very nice and warm and fuzzy, but why did so dang many republicans vote for those dumb-ass amendments to begin with?

No amendments would have meant a clean bill that may have had a good chance of passing.

This bill was NOT about guns; it was about trial lawyers.

McPaper lies again, or at least selectively reports the truth. The AWB bans a whole lot more than 18 types of rifles, just by features rather than by name, and it also bans the normal capcity magazines that many guns, handguns as well as long guns, were designed to use.

"are you seeing somthing between the lines?"

factor in that both Kerry and Edwards cut short campaigning to 'be there' for this vote. Add in that the gun zombies already sent out the press releases praising the bills passing, before it went for final vote. So the dims had a setup from the start. Planned to stick it to the R's base. But ....

Then it all flamed out 90-8. So what happened? The R's withdrew support for final passage, the dims were left holding the bag. Since the dims couldn't be seen as being the ones responsible they bailed as well.

Craig set this play in motion once the ornaments were added to the original bill.

So it means gun control died with the flame out vote. Everyone appeared to be against extending the ban, which was the whole dim ruse.

All you need to do is watch Duh-asshola.

Of course this is just my opinion.
