Fishing for a veep in a shallow pool

Everybody thinks he has a running mate for John Kerry, but the Democratic pool is so shallow that some of the Democrats are trying to figure out a way to choose someone who isn't even eligible.

A law professor at New York University thinks he has found a winning loophole in the 22nd Amendment, which declares that "no person shall be elected president more than twice." He wants to bring back Bill Clinton for a third term, and then find a way to make Mr. Kerry disappear.

There are just too many good things in this article to pass up, not to even mention the title regarding "fishing for a veep in a shallow pool," so I'll highlight a couple.

"The prospects after Bill Clinton fade quickly. John Edwards, the trial lawyer who ran for president when he took a poll and learned that he couldn't be re-elected to the U.S. Senate, is the favorite of the reporters covering him, mostly because they don't want to be called back to the office to cover a congressional campaign, City Hall or freight-car loadings at the Commerce Department."

"Mr. Edwards is great at blather, as good defense lawyers who make a living keeping criminals on the street have to be."

Wesley Pruden is one of my favorites.

would agree to play second fiddle to his second fiddle

His wife's fortune seems to be behind both his political run for the Presidency and many of the hit-ads and attacks against GWB.

Chameleon Kerry seems plenty comfortable playing second fiddle to his second fiddle.

Mr. Edwards is great at blather, as good defense lawyers who make a living keeping criminals on the street have to be.

I thought Edwards was an ambulance-chaser, not a criminal attorney.

The Constitution does not prevent Mr. Clinton from running for vice president." (This is the way lawyers think, how to dispose of the Constitution easily.)

Excuse me the qualifications for Vice President are exactly the same as teh qualifications for President and Since William Jefferson Clinton could not serve as President for more than two years he is disqualified.

A fearless prediction the Democrat Vice Presidential Candidate will be Hillary Clinton if she thinks Kerry can win.

LOL, if he's fishing in a shallow pool, he shouldn't have any trouble finding the appropriate bottom feeder.

As I understand it, there is a question of when the 12 Amendment was passed and thus whether it was meant to exclude the circumstances of a Bill Clinton vice presidency. I heard this put forth in passing by Hugh Hewitt, but I am not quite clear as to the exact premise.

Since in the ast We have had Presidents who became sick and diewd during their inuagation and since the 12th Ammendment was already a part of the US Cionstitution when the term limitation of the President was ratified and there is no language repealing the 12th Ammendment William J. Clinton could not be allowed to assume the office of Vice President of the United States of America and it would be incumbent on every American to enforce those Coonstitutional limitations by whatever appropriate means present themselves.

I'm a Georgian and a Southerner and have lived here all my life, therefore I can attest to the Southern mindset...we're an individually-minded people, not a collective, follow the herd, join the union bunch. We get condescended to and belittled and ridiculed by the media in New York and L.A., so naturally there's no love lost.
I will say, however, that we are just as capable of spotting and rejecting duplicity among our own fellow Southerners when the need arises. My home state rejected Prince Albert and Max Cleland.

Happily, the great state of Georgia does just fine despite the sneering, superior mindset of the eastern elite and the L.A. liberals. Pity the poor residents of Taxachusetts, burdened by two liberal, loonie senators, one of whom (a cowardly lying, murderer), drinks like a fish and hasn't paid an income tax in his life. The other, John F. Kerry, is a lying, narcissistic, hypocrital woman chaser...well, only the rich need apply. We get condescended to and belittled and ridiculed by both senators on a daily basis, but so far we've been too dumb to kick them out of office.

I agree! I also picked up on this statement: "The Constitution does not prevent Mr. Clinton from running for vice president"

OH YES IT DOES! This proves how stupidly ignorant these people are .. and how desperate they are to get back in the WH. Egads, Lord please deliver us from this insanity.
