As a member of the "Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association" and a WW2 vet who was attached to "CG Rescue Flotilla 1" at the Normandy Invasion on 6/6/'44, I strongly suggest that all who are upset and worried about this individual (who publicly has made a statement for Commie and dissident groups who 'proudly' oppose our military actions in Iraq and around the world) contact CG Headquarters in DC and VAdm. Hull, who I believe heads the Eastern Area within which this person serves according to his address.---sorry, I don't know how to give links but am sure you can find CG website.--I intend to send this subject to my CGCVA and CG headquarters myself as it is a "stain" on a service organization I greatly respect.

==============================================

I don't know if I have ever seen or answered something you posted. Just as Ted Kennedy unfortunately is wasting oxygen, you are wasting bandwith. I was in the Guard. You learn very early that you may have a political opinion, but your job is to follow legal orders and do your job defending this nation.

My son-in-law is active duty Navy. He couldn't believe what this Jamaal idiot was doing. Josh could not imagine serving on mission in which a shipmate was actively engaged in undermining the troops and opposing what they were doing. Would Jamaal defend and cover the backs of those with whom he serves or would he shoot them in the back? Would he throw a grenade in a tent like the scum did in Baghdad? ANSWER wants to destroy our way of life around the world. They want to destroy our military. They want the men to shoot their officers.

Jamaal can continue his duties as a janitor in civilian life. He is not someone in whom you trust your life. You are either a fool or a leftist with a foolish agenda. Either way, may a camel in heat defile you as it sees fit. A curse on your moustache.

My points were that the story has a hole so big a truck could drive through it ("Those bad people over there at FR took public information and publicized it!" is hardly evidence of "being bad.") and that some folks hate conservatives as a matter of principle. The web-link you provided is to a group that lacks reason and reasoning ability.

If the person in question has done anything wrong, it was not in endorsing a call for the US to withdraw from Iraq, but rather that he included his affiliation to the Coast Guard in the endorsement. I am not familar with the specific regulations that apply, but there may very well be a rule against that.

I don't understand why you assume that because someone holds a political view at odds with the Administration of the day they are somehow traitorous or untrustworthy? As you so eloquently said .."You learn very early that you may have a political opinion, but your job is to follow legal orders and do your job defending this nation."

I recall that many in the U.S. military held a very low opinion if Pres. Clinton (to say the least)and many felt that the missions that they were sent on in Bosnia and Somalia were ill advised. Quite a few were vocal on these points. Were they "actively engaged in undermining the troops"? No, they were exercising their 1st Amendment rights, and continued to serve their country with professionalism and honor. If they could could do so why do you assume that others can't?

"ANSWER wants to destroy our way of life around the world. They want to destroy our military. They want the men to shoot their officers."

Hmmm... I didn't know much about ANSWER until I read this thread but I would be curious about your sources. Where you get that they want soldiers to shoot their officers? There's nothing like that on their website ;-)

SOURCE: FRONT PAGE MAG

EXCERPT:
"We have to prepare to continue the struggle," cried Richard Becker, a member of both the steering committee for International A.N.S.W.E.R. and the communist Workers' World Party. Although the A.N.S.W.E.R.-organized crowd at the March 15th rally in San Francisco was smaller than in previous demonstrations, the cries from the podium were much sharper. Becker called for direct action, civil disobedience all over the city, should the United States begin a war with Iraq. But the anti-war demonstrators hadn't waited for Becker. Plans for direct action on the day of the war have been in place for weeks.

EXCERPT:
This Saturday in San Francisco, the 'class war' contingent was out in large numbers, keeping to the back of the rally at their pre-announced mobilization point. Besides the 'No War But The Class War' banner, they also favored one that read "We Support Our Troops When They Shoot Their Officers." This is more 'support' than their New York counterparts, who wrote the following message to soldiers: "Considering the common practice of talking about "supporting the troops" in times of hostilities, I should let you know how I feel. With all due respect, I want you to know that if you participate in this conflict, you are not serving me, and I don't support you."

Yikes. Hadn't seen that picture. Pretty disgusting stuff. Still I'm don't think it is accurate to characterize an entire organization, which appears to be a very loose coalition, on the basis of a few whackos who show up at one of their rallies. Geez, they wouldn't even show their faces. The Left and Right both have their share of loony extremists whose words and actions should be repudiated by everyone.

Issue-based coalitions can often include people and oranizations who agree on little else besides the issue itself. Does George Bush think that abortion clinic doctors should be murdered? I seriously doubt it, but that doesn't stop him from accepting support from groups that include members who do.

We know that Jameel Rashid lent his support to a specific "call to action" that criticized US foriegn policy and called for the US to leave Iraq, so we can assume that he agrees with ANSWER on those points. We really know nothing else about him - not that he is a security risk, not that he is unfit to serve in the Coast Guard - nothing.

The Warrant Officer who returned my call didn't think he was fit to serve.

Can we say lynch-mob mentality? These individuals are American soldiers, they have enough enemies.

Ann Coulter

And isn't the title of this thread HERE IS THE ENEMY? Why domestic political opponents fall under the same "enemy" label as Al Queada?

Most of the groups on that list (the ones I checked out anyway) aren't "enemies" of the US... they're mostly just people with a flower-child mentality. It's not their ideals that people deride (ok, some of them are a little weird, or borderline socialist), it's their simplistic view on how to achieve them. And like almost all political groups (including our current two illustrious political parties), they are invariably taken over by extremists who represent the other members only in which general direction they lean.

As for the idea of a military serviceman or officer spouting this kind of political hoopla, I really think he should think twice about the particularly groups he's associating with, and current military service shouldn't be made an issue of until after an honorable discharge has come and gone. BUT... other than the people here who are serving or have served in the past, I'm really not too inclined to hear howling about patriotism from people who for the most part never served. Particularly in light of the fact that absent or questionable military service has become the norm in politics.

I've been digging around and have been hard-pressed to find any "Migrant College" in Stuart, Florida!

"You learn very early that you may have a political opinion, but your job is to follow legal orders and do your job defending this nation."

How does having and expressing an opinion interfere with your ability or willingness to follow orders? Do you think your son-in-law is 100% behind every single decision that his commanders give him? Of course not. Does that mean he'll still carry out his orders? Of course.

"You are either a fool or a leftist with a foolish agenda."

Right. Anyone who disagrees with you MUST be a leftist.
