Hey, Mama_Bear ! I got a Freepmail from Pippin a few minutes ago and she asked that I convey her note to you here on the thread! Tell Lori her thread about Pennsylvania is Wonderful!

Awwwwww.....bless her heart. Thanks for passing on her message, Meekie. I thought she would probably enjoy this presentation because I know she is a history buff and I remembered her saying last year that she was going to a retreat in Pennsylvania.

She has sent me information on Indiana to help with the presentation of that state, but I have put it on hold, waiting and hoping that she can get back on-line so she can participate in that thread. I know she wants to be here for it.

Pippin, we miss you and I know you miss us. I am glad you can at least lurk occasionally so you do feel you are losing touch.

I would love to travel around the Harrisburg area and do some antique shopping some day. Have heard Pennsylvania is a great place to go antique shopping...used to know a couple that went up there several times just to do that.

Marketing copy aimed at tourists.

Correction noted. Seems every Pennsylvania Dutch website I visited mentioned Lancaster County as being the "center" of Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

I LOVE antique shopping! I collect old Lenox pieces and other china and pottery. Fun way to spend the day. I didn't know that Harrisburg is known for their antique shops.

Let's go shopping!!!

I'm pretty sure it was the Harrisburg area, if I remember right. This couple loved to decorate their home with antique Amish furniture. Their home was very charming.

If you come to our commonwealth, try visiting the western section a little. Titusville has a mock up of the world's first oil weel at Drake's Well Park (beautiful with Oil Creek running just alongside), Bradford with the Zippo Lighter museum, and the best jewel in the crown, Presque Isle off Erie.

Hi Safetgiver. Thanks for bringing our attention to the western part of your state. I am pinging .30carbine to your post as she has asked for some suggestions as to what to see and do in Pennsylvania.

I found this image of Drake's Well to add to our thread. This sounds like it could be an interesting place to visit.

The first commercial American oil well was drilled in 1859 near Titusville, Pennsylvania, by Colonel Edwin L. Drake (right). For the first 25 years of the oil era, Pennsylvania became the world's leading oil producer.

Thanks for stopping by. Keep on harassing the liberal left, and thank you for your service, too. :-)

Thank you for these wonderful threads, MamaBear.

On journeys through the States

ON journeys through the States we start,
(Ay through the world, urged by these songs,
Sailing henceforth to every land, to every sea,)
We willing learners of all, teachers of all, and lovers of all.

We have watch'd the seasons dispensing themselves and passing on,
And have said, Why should not a man or woman do as much as the
seasons, and effuse as much?

We dwell a while in every city and town,
We pass through Kanada, the North-east, the vast valley of the Mississippi, and the Southern States,
We confer on equal terms with each of the States,
We make trial of ourselves and invite men and women to hear,
We say to ourselves, Remember, fear not, be candid, promulge the body and the soul,
Dwell a while and pass on, be copious, temperate, chaste, magnetic,
And what you effuse may then return as the seasons return,
And may be just as much as the seasons.

Irish Blessings

Wherever you go and
whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish
Be there with you!

May your glass be ever full
May the roof over your head
be always strong
And may you be in heaven
Half an hour before
The devil knows you're dead.

May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrock
May your heart be as light as a song
May each day bring you bright happy hours
That stay with you all year long.

May the lilt of Irish laughter
Lighten every load
May the mist of Irish magic
Shorten every road
May you taste the sweetest pleasures
That fortune e're bestowed
And may all your friends remember
All the favors you are owed!

May your troubles be less
And your blessings be more
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door!

May the Good Lord take a liking to you...

But not too soon!

........first one with our new computer (XP)

I have had XP for several months. I think once you get used to it, you will love it. It is a great step up from Windows 98, I think.

Looking forward to your thread tomorrow. :-)

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers.
He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers.
I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back."
The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan's offer.
One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder.
"Is your bet still good?", asks the Irishman.
The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness.
Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back.
The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement.
The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says,
"If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?".
The Irishman replies, "Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first".
