I hasten to add I would not have posted that rumor if my information source wasn't of good quality. That said: the story was that the syringes were laid out that way by roadies - it did not specify which members partook.

Yes, Vincent Gallo is a conservative (although he walks through the liberal elites in the art world with only a few barbs thrown at him). He was on Laura Ingrahm's radio show this week and she kept him on longer than she had planned.

I've seen a photo of him with the President's daughter.

Johnny Ramone used to have a list of his 10 favorite conservatives on the Ramones website. Rush Limbaugh was there as was Ronald Reagan and Vincent Gallo.

Vincent Gallo also has his own website.

Add me to a punk ping list if you start one. I post some of these related (apolitial) articles to the music section of chat (I get emailed headlines and will post the ocassional article).

Socialists have tried to co-opt the new youth music (new as in post-Woodstock). They co-opted rock and roll in the 1960s. There was no political activism in rock in the 1950s (in folk singer music, definitely).

Socialists would even co-opt outdoor concerts in the 1960s. I've read several accounts of bands that would suddenly find their stage overtaken by the lefty with a bullhorn and an agenda. Johnny Legend and other hippies of the day that would watch from the crowd have also admitted that kids went to the park to hear a band and to meet chicks. Politics was not on their mind; they weren't going to the rally out of any sort of activism.

Abbie Hoffman and other yippies blackmailed the Woodstock promoters to the tune of a $10,000 payoff and a free booth just so they would not "disrupt" the festival. Someone still burned down the food vendors' booth. The hippies of old try to forget the fires at the original Woodstock.

The most punk rock moment of Woodstock came when Pete Townsend whacked Abbie Hoffman with his guitar to knock him off the stage when Abbie tried to take the mike during the Who's set. I wish I could see film/video of that.

Wasn't Chloë Sevigny Vincent Gallo's girlfriend? This is all so connected.

Yeah, I've been to his website. I missed him on Laura Ingrahm's show. As an artist and musician myself (in my spare time, not professionally) it's nice to find fellow conservatives when I can.

I saw the Plasmatics live many years ago on New Years Eve before they entered their "metal" stage. Of course the highlight was Wendy chainsawing a guitar in half. Musically they weren't much, but it was a spectacle, to say the least.

Is there any way, I wonder, to get Johnny Ramone to become a freeper?

I think Henry Rollins from Black Flag might be a conservative.

I saw his spoken-word show a few weeks ago; he definitely has some conservative tendancies — in fact, he went on a mini-tirade about Teddy Kennedy being a bloated, alcohol-ravaged murderer — but he also said Bush shouldn't be re-elected, citing the PNAC Web site among other things.

There was a lot of marxism associated with the Clash.

Sorta, but it wasn't the hardcore doctrinaire sort of Marxism of a lot of punk bands (Gang of Four, Crass, etc.). It was more of the romantic revolutionary sort. Softheaded, maybe, but not evil. And they did rock.
