NEW YORK -- A former journalist and one-time press secretary for four members of Congress was arrested Thursday on charges that she served as a paid agent for the Iraqi intelligence service before and after the U.S. invasion.
Susan Lindauer, 41, was arrested in her hometown of Takoma Park, Md., and was to appear in court later in the day in Baltimore, authorities in New York said.
She was accused of conspiring to act as a spy for the Iraqi Intelligence Service and engaging in prohibited financial transactions involving the government of Iraq under dictator Saddam Hussein. Prosecutors say she accepted $10,000 for he work.
"I'm an anti-war activist and I'm innocent," Lindauer told WBAL-TV as she was led to a car outside the Baltimore FBI office.
"I did more to stop terrorism in this country than anybody else. I have done good things for this country,' she said. "I worked to get weapons inspectors back to Iraq when everyone else said it was impossible. I'm very proud and I'll stand by my achievements."
Lindauer worked at Fortune, U.S. News & World Report and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before beginning her career as a political publicist.
She worked for Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore. in 1993 and then Rep. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., in 1994 before joining the office of former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun as press secretary in 1996. From March to May 2002, she worked for Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif.

Now I COULD make a comment, but I don't want to be accused of being judgemental, or questioning the patriotism of a certain political party.

I just find it...curious that self addmitted "peace activist" worked of two members of the mainstream meaia(you know the ones that don't have any bias) a 1 political party, and big name members at that. Has been accused of spying for one of the worst dictators of the last 30 years.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the RATS are in this spy thing up to and including their eyeballs! So far, every article I've read about this woman plays up her relation to Andy Card but omits completely the fact that she worked for several high ranking RATS in Congress! i WISH someone would dig a little deeper here. I smell treason!

According to congressional directories, Lindauer worked in the press office of Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., in 1993. In January 1994, she began work as press secretary for then-Rep. Wyden, a liberal lawmaker who now is a U.S. senator from that state. She did a stint in the press operation of then-Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, D-Ill., in 1996 and later landed in the office of Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., in April 2002 - about the time the indictment alleges Lindauer traveled to Baghdad.

Odd. On my browser, this story is now headlined "Saddam's alleged U.S. Spy Linked To White House."
This just really makes me mad.

Nothing. It's the main headline on Netscape.com. Since they get their news from CNN, I guess I really shouldn't be surprised.

So I guess I probably didn't make myself clear earlier. Sorry about that. Same story, via a non-FR source. Best argument I can think of for making FR my homepage :)
