Britney fans do it one more time

My freind was sharing a shocking story seems on of her 5yr. old daughters classmates took another classmate of the oppisite sex to see the concert and then spend the week end with her.

Now this maybe an innocent sleep over as 5yrs is young but taking the 5yr old kids to see Britney as a date seemed perverted.

When I was a teeny bop thirty years ago mine was Micheal Jackson.

Now hearing his name makes me cringe.

The other kids in the neighborhood loved Donny Osmond.

Oh my, where to begin. Instead of $2500 for backstage passes to meet is "idol", his parents should invest that money for serious therapy for this troubled young man. I can't believe this article looks at this as a "good thing." What have we become?

Uh ... blame the boy for his obsessive behavior but it sounds as if the mother is a 51% enabler of this behavior.

I don't think she's that bad and some of these kids are just kooks who would get obsessed with a rock if they thought it would make them look cool. If my kid was obsessed like that --- beyond what's normal for a pre-teen infatuation, I would know the kid had some kind of problem and look into it. She's not that powerful --- my kids could care less about her but then I didn't have MTV in the house and they listen to rock.

It's incredibly sad that we have an entire generation of kids who don't know what musical talent is and don't expect "music stars" to exhibit a trace of it, even during a concert they're charging $100 or more to attend.

Yep -- one of the most outrageous things about the Super Bowl halftime show, besides the obvious one, is how exactly one performer, Kid Rock, had a live band and actually performed without lip-synching. Like I said about Milli Vanilli, it used to be a big scandal when artists lip-synched; not anymore. People will say that Milli Vanilli was different because they were lip-synching to somebody else's voices. Well, how do we know that any of these other "artists" are actually singing on their own records, when they can't even perform live?

1. Who asked you to dance, especially if it means you can't sing during your own concert? I'm a writer, so that's like me telling a client, "I'd love to write a script for you, but I'm too busy juggling to type. I know you didn't ask me to juggle, and that it's entirely incidental to the main point of our transaction, but it's just something I do, and I'm letting it take precedence over the actual job."

I blame MTV for that, where the visual became more important than the audio. And what cracks me up now is that one of the original "can't sing, but dances a lot" artists, Paula Abdul, now judges singers on American Idol!

2. Britney is a lousy "dancer." Her dancing is to real dancing as her "singing" is to real singing. There's no flow, no grace; it's just a mixture of cliched pole dancer moves and bad cheerleader choreography. You can even see where one "hunk" ends and the next begins because she clomps back to her base spot, plants herself on the piece of tape at center stage, counts "1-2-3-4" (which I suspect is as high as she can count), then launches into her next clunky hunk.

Good points! And as MC Hammer ruefully learned, having a million people on stage with you is going to cost a lot of money. The moment I saw him on Saturday Night Live with 50 people on stage, I knew he was going to go broke!

Anyhow, back to Britney. She's only 22, and she's already beginning to look like a crack whore. It's got to kill her that Norah Jones and Alicia Keys, who are both attractive and close to her age, can actually sing, write songs, and play the piano, and have careers which focus on their music and not their looks. And to top it all off, despite the fact that they don't cavort like strippers, they are outselling Britney by a mile.

Sorry, I won't cut these squirts any slack just because they're young. When I was young, everyone in my school liked disco, while I was into Bowie and the Kinks. 30 years later, Bowie and the Kinks still sound great. Can you imagine what the current pap will sound like three decades hence? Even the Archies sound better than Britney. At least those cartoon characters' lips matched up fairly well with the words when they sang.

I agree. I got mocked for liking the Ramones, the Police, the Clash, etc. when everybody else in my school was listening to Journey and Rick Springfield. What music has stood the test of time?

You get that too huh? Always good to have alternative behavior available available to exhibit when they grumble. For instance, I had a pile of brush & limbs about the size of a house left over from January's ice & snow damage and today, with our recent good weather, seemed like a good day to dispose of it. So bright & early I snuck out of the house and went to the rental center & came back with a trailer mounted wood chipper, 6" capacity. My neighbor, hearing the activity outside, came out and inspected the apparatus and decided he'd do the neighborly thing and lend a hand, so he grabbed his chainsaw and together we spent the morning making big pieces of wood into little pieces of wood. Everyone else in the house sleeps until noon on the weekends, and I'm usually up and on the computer on a non workday, or just at work otherwise. So the day I emerge from my rut and do something special, they still complained. Can't understand why. :)

I have some backhoe loader work to do in the next few weeks, and we sell and rent them where I work so I can just go grab one whenever I want. We have jackhammer attachments for them too, should the need arise.

Heh. The girls call that sort bippy-tarts. I don't know for sure what that term means, or in what way it's offensive, but I know they mean it that way. This is the first BOY one I have heard of though. No surprise it is right here in river city.

I think my sister liked both of them, and we all watched the Osmond's TV show when it was on. "Donny & Marie", almost exactly our age, always seemed to enjoy what they were doing, and they played it exactly the right way, stepping out of the limelight and moving on with their lives rather than trying to outdo themselves in order to stay in the game. Even Jackson's act was fairly straightforward until 15 years ago or so, when events started taking place that would make the clueful see rather plainly it was time to get out of public life. If he is able to resolve his current issues, which I seriously doubt, he'd be smart to go recluse again.

Your sister was never a Jackson fan. Nope. Never. Not even a little. But I was a Donny Osmond fan.

I have to agree with you about this poor kid. He is exhibiting some odd behavior. I have to wonder if his openly gayness is a way for him to get attention. It sounds like he needs help.

Well I remember "One Bad Apple" being played a lot, and I always thought that was the Jackson Five. So just now, being how I am, I went to look for proof. And darn, I see both groups did it close to the same time. Osmonds 1970, Jackson Five 1971. I don't have much choice but to take your word for it that it was The Osmonds - but I still think there was a Jackson Five album around the house about that time. We can just say it was K's, I guess, because I know it wasn't mine. Who was it that wouldn't miss the Jackson Five cartoon show when it was on? I remember that one and also one about the Osmonds. My favorite musical group at the time was Three Dog Night. They didn't have a cartoon show.
