Heath Suspended For a Month(Attempted To Create List Of Policy Makers' Sexual Orientation) POLL
Portland Press Herald ^ | Sunday, March 14, 2004 | TESS NACELEWICZ

Michael Heath must step down as head of the Christian Civic League of Maine for one month for his attempt to solicit information about which state lawmakers and officials might be homosexual.

The board of directors of the conservative Christian organization made that decision after a meeting Saturday.

"The board determined that in making a call for personal information about the sexual orientation of public officials, Mr. Heath crossed a line of ethical behavior into a realm of sinful gossip," the board said in a statement posted on its Web site.

"The board believes that in the heat of a difficult political battle, Mike responded to pressure in a manner unbecoming to our Lord's call to love our enemies and forgive those who offend us."

Heath will be on administrative leave for one month starting immediately, the Rev. Dallas Henry, chairman of the league's 11-member board, said Saturday. Henry said the board decided not to reveal whether Heath will be paid during that time.

Henry said the board prayed before its unanimous vote. "We asked God for guidance and we felt like God gave us this guidance," he said.

The purpose of the leave is for Heath "to reflect on what he has learned from this experience and what needs to be changed to ensure that it does not happen in the future," the board's statement said.

Heath could not be reached for comment Saturday, but Henry said he "received (the decision) well."

Henry said that while Heath is gone, the league's new lobbyist, Tim Russell, who began working for the organization a few months ago, will continue to work in Augusta to promote "our efforts to preserve traditional marriage and lobby for family values."

In his March 5 e-mail newsletter, Heath asked for "tips, rumors, speculation and facts" about the sexual orientation of legislators and other politicians, saying the league wanted the information to create a list of policy makers' sexual orientations.

The newsletter ignited a firestorm of criticism from Gov. John Baldacci and lawmakers. Heath, the league's executive director since 1994, issued a public apology.

The board said Saturday that it is "convinced that Mike is truly sorrowful for his actions and the damage that he has done."

The board also praised Heath for his service. Henry called him "a man of integrity" and said he expects him to return to his job when the month is up.

Betsy Smith of the Maine Lesbian Gay Political Alliance said Saturday she welcomed news of the suspension.

"It's validating, to be honest with you," she said. "His behavior feels really unethical to us, in addition to being really offensive.

"I would love to see it more than a month," she added. "Personally, I don't think Mr. Heath is appropriate to run that organization . . . he does some very un-Christian-like things."

State Rep. Brian Duprey, R-Hampden, who wants to amend Maine's constitution to ban same-sex marriages, an idea supported by the league, said he could not comment Saturday because he was unaware of the development. Duprey previously said Heath's action was wrong.

State Rep. Glenn Cummings, D-Portland, who helped pass out pink triangle badges that many legislators wore last week to show solidarity in the face of Heath's action, praised the decision. "The league is wise to separate itself from that kind of behavior," he said.

The month's suspension was not enough given the seriousness of the offense, Cummings said, but "it's a step in the right direction."

House Majority Leader John Richardson, D-Brunswick, said he hopes that "Michael takes this month to reflect on how he can be more inclusive than divisive."

Richardson said it is the league's right to determine the length of the suspension but predicted that when Heath returns, "there will be a certain amount of distrust for some time to come."

Betsy Smith of the Maine Lesbian Gay Political Alliance :

"Personally, I don't think Mr. Heath is appropriate to run that organization . . . he does some very un-Christian-like things.

Heath published this statement on the Christian Civic League of Maine website:

I apologize
I am sorry for indicating that the League is going to keep a list of the "sexual orientation" of public policy makers and leaders. In the midst of fighting for something I feel very strong about I wrote and said things that I should not have written and spoken. I feel terrible that my words and conduct have besmirched the fine reputation and important ministry of the Christian Civic League of Maine. And I apologize to the Legislature and the people of Maine.

As a Christian concerned with the people, especially the children, he appropriately was compiling a list of those whose perversions run contrary to the morale and morals of the majority of the world.

Those who fired him, only encourage sin, hate, perversions, and the spread of deadly diseases. I hope they can live the tens of thousands of children that die due to this sickness.

They won't care.....

I apologize to the 'perfectionists'. substitute 'SUSPENDED' in the place of 'FIRING'

Their own gay magazines 'out' homosexuals who are still in the closet.

Is she just as upset at them?

[And for the record, what this guy did was stupid, unscriptual, hurtful and counterproductive.]

He's making a list,
Checking it twice,
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Michael Heath is coming to town!

He sees where you've been sleeping,
He knows what drugs you take.
He knows if you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!

Oh! You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Michael Heath is coming to town!

And in a Clintonesque choice of words, Heath is "I am sorry for indicating that the League is going to keep a list ..." Note that he's not sorry for creating a list or wanting one made up, he's just sorry that his plan was found out.

"The board believes that in the heat of a difficult political battle, Mike responded to pressure in a manner unbecoming to our Lord's call to love our enemies and forgive those who offend us."

The liberal left who control much of Christian programs and media are wrong on this and many other decisions they make concerning the Lord's call. The bible believing body of Christ is called to stand against the spread of sin and the homosexual movement is destroying the family unit, we are called to push back evil at every turn; our truth is based solely on the Holy Bible of God, the author of the bible.

17. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19. Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29. Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30. Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31. Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

There is a relentless crusade to homosexualize America. It is a new religion of sorts. It is like the introduction and celebration of drugs in the 60s.

Henry said the board prayed before its unanimous vote. "We asked God for guidance and we felt like God gave us this guidance," he said.

Feelings
Whoa, whoa, whoa, feelings ...

They should not derive strategy and tactics from feelings if they want to fight a war against homosexuality. They can just surrender peacefully ...

"And for the record, what this guy did was stupid, unscriptual, hurtful and counterproductive."

It is stupid to disclose your enemies?

It is unscriptual? Where?

Hurtful? By allowing corruption and disease to run rampant kills. "hurt feelings" is worse than murder?

counterproductive is a buzz word from the leftist-stooge dictionary. I'm glad you have learned it well.

....Gramsci lesson...

Once religion is discredited from within, continuously promote the idea that only the state can solve the problems that have been traditionally brought before the church

F. When propagating revolutionary ideas, cloak them in polite terms:

National Consensus
Popular Mandate
National Pacification
Pluralism
Global Community
Economic Justice
Economic Democracy
Liberation Theology
Direct Action

Perhaps he saw mayors, for example, breaking the law on same-sex marriages. He saw politicians rushing to the side for what they might consider receiving the most votes. He saw policy makers of those "afflicted" states hiding in their own "gonadic closet" afraid to enforce the law until after closed meetings on how their response would effect them politically. No, he was not PC, but he did raise the question that many have quietly muddled within...Oh, and he just happened to be a Christian.

Laughs! Sorry, you reminded me of a new show on Fox,"who is gay..who is straight" Playing It Straight reality dating show. So far those eliminated by the female part of this future twosome (thought to be gay )have been straight. If she should pick a straight guy at the end, she wins $500,000; as does he. Should it be revealed she picked a gay guy, then SHE LOSES..IN ALL WAYS!!!

Dear Stooge,

You have to be as dumb as a box of rocks to believe that what this guy did was productive.

How did his actions advance conservatism?

Are they loving Osama Bin Laden and forgiving him too ?

Is it unscriptural to gather INTEL on our enemies ?

Speaking of foolish stooges...

Since when is the Bible and the teachings of God "conservative" only?

There is RIGHT and there is WRONG. That is the basis of the Jeudeo-Christian belief.

communism, and the other 'religions' of the world teach NOT right & wrong, good or evil, but "feels good" or "feels bad". Hmmm..."feelings" again....

Have you ever wondered why a civilization that is over 8,000 years old - India - never before progressed beyond the 17th - 18th century?

Further to your point (agreement bump), since when does this lesbian woman have anything to say about someone else's "un-Christianlike" (sic) activities? One would think she'd approve of anything "un-Christianlike", just for consistency's sake.

But seriously, folks, as steplock was saying, is it really "over the line" if people's sexual orientation is going to be decisive in their performance of their public duties when an issue like SSM comes up? If the issue were funding textbooks for parochial schools, wouldn't it be appropriate to point out that the bill's floor manager was an Episcopal bishop?

No it is a valid inquiry. We had a supporter of GLSEN on the school board who turns out to have a homosexual son. Inquiry as to the lifestyle choices of the elected officials is valid in electing representatives ESPECIALLY on the local level.

It may not take a federal budget decision. What happens when a cities decsion to finance homosexual relationships, breaks a local city budget.

BTW sounds like a stupid show, not intersted. (especially in yet another homo-television show.)

It is quite rational to identify your enemies. And homosexuals are the enemy of Western Society. Those in public office, schools, youth organizations, and church heirachies are dedicated to spreading their perversion to the destruction of our society.

That the Christian Civic League of Maine chooses not only to blind itself to the homosexual threat, but also punishes its only member taking positive action shows just how far the enemy has progressed towards its goal.

There used to be a time when being a person of faith also automatically meant being one of convictions. Now it's just an excuse for being a coward.

BTW, has anyone noticed how consistently these religious organizations "pray" before they cave in to evil's demands?
