It's been almost a year since Operation Iraqi Freedom began, a good time to assess the progress that's been made, and the problems that remain.
Jack Kelly is national security writer for the Post-Gazette and The Blade of Toledo, Ohio (jkelly@post-gazette.com, 412-263-1476).

Despite frequent sabotage and a deteriorating physical plant, oil production has nearly attained prewar levels. The price of oil is up and ALL the revenues for the oil sold is going to Iraq, not Saddam Hussein!

It aint perfect but it is progress.
When democrats pounce on the slightest sign of dispute over the iraqi constitution, simply point out that ours took nearly a decade to settle.

What's gone wrong is the ding bat military response to road side bombs. Maybe I'm crazy, but WHY AREN'T the idiots in charge protecting our soldiers better? The bombs seem like a sophisticated calculated attack.

This is an outstanding piece. I just finished reading it through RealClearPolitics.com and was ready to post it. You saved me the trouble. Here area couple of things that stand out:
Efforts to spark a civil war between Shiite and Sunni Muslims so far have failed.
The outgunned Iraqi cops refused help from the 82nd Airborne Division, requesting only that they be resupplied with ammunition.
Shops are filled with consumer goods, which are flying off the shelves.
Electricity is on in Basra 23 hours a day now, compared with just two under Saddam.
Nearly a million more Iraqis have cars since Saddam was ousted.

The outgunned Iraqi cops refused help from the 82nd Airborne Division, requesting only that they be resupplied with ammunition. Recruitment for the Iraqi police, the Civil Defense force, and the new Iraqi army remains strong. I'm pretty sure what happened here is that the police chief for Fallujah didn't ask for immediate help because he was in cahoots with the attackers. That is why he was subsequently arrested by soldiers with the 82nd.

Nearly a million more Iraqis have cars since Saddam was ousted.WHICH adds to global warming. Heck, probably some of those cars are SUVs!!

A great piece. The truth is that the liberation of Iraq has been a tremendous success. It was the right thing to do for America, for Iraq and for the world.

Good to read an honest report for a change.
According to the media LEFT, nothing has gone RIGHT in Iraq.
