If I may suggest, try to go "local" at least at the beginning. It will be less stressful. There may well be an internist with an interest and background in Cushings--inquire.

Try to find an email list or chat room with other caregiver's or even Cushing's Syndrome survivors themselves. This is _the_ best place to learn of the _best_ facilities and the _best_ doctors for treating a particular disease. Go to those who have already walked the road you are currently walking. Learn from them. It took some time for me to learn this, but it is what I did when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in August 2001, and it was tremendously helpful. Now, in addition to my local doctors, I'm also being treated by The Brain Tumor Center at Duke University (a short five hour drive from my house).

One more thing, I'm a big advocate of getting multiple opinions before deciding on a particular treatment. Of course, your personality may lead you in a different direction but after I was diagnosed (and quickly thereafter had surgery) I went to three different institutions in addition to my local doctors for additional opinions on what course of action to take next.

Knowledge is power. Just my two cents.

I thought I'd do a google search (www.google.com)using Cusing Syndrome Medical Specialists as key words and up came a page full of information. The 3rd on the list referred me to Dr. Phillip R. Orlander, MD, Professor of endocremology at the University of Texas Medical School Houston. I would imagine any Teaching Medical School can refer you to a Specialist in that field. I would also imagine that Dr. Orlander and other doctors who specialize in your local area are known to each other. If not they certainly would know how to locate a specialist near you.

From what I read it appears the disease is treatable and in some cases curable. God Bless!
