FReeper Delgates to Texas Republican Party State Convention(via District Conventions) C.U.N.S.A. Sta

Posted on 03/18/2004 2:27:09 PM PST by DrewsDad

Hopefully, many of you are now delegates to your County/Senatorial District Conventions. But, even if you are not, you are still eligible(provided you voted in the Republican Primary) to become a Delegate to the Republican State Convention in San Antonio on June 3-5th(no you don't have to attend every day).

A little strategy is involved in the next step on getting on the list of delegates at this convention. The first thing you need to do is call your local party. The Texas Republican Party Website provides a list of Contacts for County Chairmen. Find out when the Temporary Nominations Committee is meeting(usually the week before your county/district convention). Show up at one of their meetings and express your interest in attending the State Convention. You might also get a few names of committee members and contact them to make sure they know you will be persistant.

This Temporary Nominations Committee will likely be nominated as the Permanent Nominations Committee at the County/District Convention. If they are not or if you aren't sure you are on their list, then appear before the Permanent Nominations Committee after they are announced at the convention.

Also, if you have proposed resolutions or rule changes, you may want to influence those temporary and permanent committees as needed.

The Permanent Nominations Committee will rbing their final report before the convention for approval. Hopefully, you will be on this list of announced names. If not, you can always move to amend the list if they left you off(especially if all the alternate slots are not filled). It has been my experience that most alternate delegates will be seated at the State Convention.

Well, those are my suggestions for getting to the State Convention. I think there are some areas that may choose their delegates beforehand or in a slightly different manner so make sure that you ask when you call the local Party.

I think we had 30+ FReepers at the 2002 State Convention and I hope to see a whole lot more this year.

See You in San Antonio!!!

Again please refrain from blasting the party's shortcomings if you have given up on it. This is our chance to influence it for the better.

It would be wonderful to have a large FReeper gathering Friday or Saturday Evening at the Convention. I look forward to seeing you there.

*Texas GOP Convention PING!*

All - I attended the 2002 convention as a guest and was privileged to meet DrewsDad and many other fine Texas FReepers for the first time. Do this if you can!

As always, a FReep mail will get you on or off this Houston and Texas topics ping list.

Thanks Flyer.

I hate to post and run, but I'm headed down your way in a few minutes. Hopefully all the past FReeper Delegates can help answer any questions until I get to a computer again.

You might want to add "Texas" to the title.

See you in San Antonio.

I'll be there, like I was in 2002.

I have been looking for a convention schedule, I think I saw a rough schedule, now I can't find any.

I like your idea for a freeper (strategy?) meeting!

Moderator, you might want to add "(Texas)" to the title of this thread.

I will be attending my Senate District Convention (Harris County SD-17) on 27 March 2004. I am a delegate and will very likely be a delegate to the state convention.

P.S. If you want "Texas" added to the title, hit the "Abuse Button" and describe the requested change. I do that when I make mistakes and/or provide updates in original postings.

Thanks for the ping. I will be there. My county is becoming Republican. We elected our first Republican - ever- in 1992. We had contested races in the primary this year! Things are looking up.

Hope to meet many of you there even tho' I don't post often!

Great to hear from you. I look forward to seeing you in S.A.(if not before then) since it sounds like you may be close. FReepmail Gracey if you want to be on the Heart of Texas Chapter email list.

Also note Saturday's Anti-Appeasement Counterprotest if you are interested.

Good luck to y'all down there in the Lone Star State. May you have better luck with conservative delegates than we did here in Louisville, Kentucky. Up here, I was the ONLY one to show up from my precinct for the legislative district convention. But, because I don't fit in with the politically correct agenda of the Jefferson County GOP Executive Committee, I was kept off the delegates list. They stacked the deck and wouldn't even give our slate an up-or-down vote.

See more of the gory details here.

Keep at it. Gather like-minded individuals for the next time and keep plugging. It's amazing that once you finally break through, they may fade quicker than you think.

I'll be there, as I have the last couple, but I'll no longer harbor the illusion that the "resolutions" amount to anything more than a sop to the conservatives, to keep us coming around and to delude us into thinking that anyone in power will be paying even the least bit of attention to conservative principles.

New governor, anyone? And I DON'T mean Kay Bailey!

I'll be the sole delegate to SD 11 convention from my Precinct. I'll likely be elected to be a delegate to the Texas State convention. It would be cool to go to the National convention as a delegate, but that will take some luck and $$. I'd like to go as a guest at least.

We do need to get a FR booth organized for the Texas Convention. Hopefully some H.O.T. FReepers can get this rolling.

I tried to remember and ping who I met at tx gop 2002, as well as those saying they would attend this year.

Got my convention papers today.
Looks like the La Quinta is close and cheapest of the recommended Hotels. Anyone recommend other hotels near Henry Gonzalez Convention Center?

I plan on attending the Thursday morning breakfast / speech by Dewherst and others; have to leave Friday night. Would love to meet-up Thursday evening!!
