Bush's re-assignment of the Guard was done behind the public's back. Even the illegals thought that Bush would provide an increase in Border security after 9/11, not a decrease. That had a lot to do with the decrease in apprehensions.
Bush fooled everybody, initially.
I never saw then, but I work with many guys that were glad they left.
Bush's re-assignment of the Guard was done behind the public's back.
No it was not. When they were assigned, it was stated right off the bat, that it was temporary.
Even the illegals thought that Bush would provide an increase in Border security after 9/11, not a decrease.
And he did. There was no decrease in border security.
That had a lot to do with the decrease in apprehensions.
Again, no.
The point you're glossing over is that Bush re-assigned these Guardsmen from stations inbetween the checkpoints. Bush didn't replace them. He left those areas more vulnerable. That's making the borders less secure in my book.
When Bush announced the use of the Guard at the checkpoints, he made it sound as if he was sending new personnel to the borders. In fact, he was only shuffling people around.
That was dishonest and many people were justifiably angry when they found out.
Incorrect.
New Guardsmen were added to every Port of Entry and they had never worked on the border before. The very few, less the 100 along the Mexican border, that work with the BP regularly, stayed on their assignments with the BP.
