GENEVA NY Paul Passavant said there are two reasons he is opposed to the military action in Iraq.
The assistant political science professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges said yesterday that the founding fathers would have opposed fighting a war for a presidents political gain. And, he said, the coalition forces have waged an aggressive war similar to the one the Nazis were tried for after World War II.
A year and a day after the U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq, Passavant was among about 50 people at a war protest Saturday on South Main Street. They read the names of the more than 500 U.S. servicemen and women who have died in battle, and they planted flags in their memory during the 11 a.m. ceremony at Pulteney Park.
Then they held protest signs for half an hour above the Routes 5&20 overpass, prompting some of the cars below to honk in support.
Were calling on people to show their support for peace, said Geneva 1st Ward Councilor Jackie Augustine, who was involved in protests when the war began.
The flags were planted in a snow-covered patch of lawn, surrounded with protest signs bearing statistics on the casualties and cost of war.
Jodi Dean, another HWS assistant professor, said she hoped that by protesting she could help raise awareness in Geneva about the cost of this war.
When asked what the coalition nations should have done to Iraq instead of war, she said, Nothing. The sanctions were working.
Wow. Now there's an insightful analysis....I can see how he rose to the rank of "assistant political science professor at Hobart and William Smith."
And, he said, the coalition forces have waged an aggressive war similar to the one the Nazis were tried for after World War II.
OOOh...and the old "compare republicans to Nazis" gag. Man, hard to believe he's not a full professor with all of this intellect going down.
When asked what the coalition nations should have done to Iraq instead of war, she said, Nothing. The sanctions were working.
Apparently, no one tells the assistant professors at Hobart about the rampant corruption involving the oil for food program.
Man, if my kid was going to Hobart, I'd demand my money back. These people haven't got the brains to fill a gnat's @$$.
There's a joke in there somewhere.
Yes, the sanctions were working; they were working quite well to fill the bank accounts of the UN plutarchs and the leftist politicians, news media, and "religious" organizations in Britain, France, Germany and Russia.
Political gain would have been to continue rattling sabers.
It took political courage to invade.
Not just any Democrat, but a former member of the Clinton administration.
My work with this friend is obviously non-political and the friendship continues with the deepest mutual respect for our common interest.
